German auto makers have been resting on their laurels for decades. Make a competitive product at a competitive price and you will be fine.

Germany should try making better EVs rather than relying on old legacy branding and blaming China. We all know German EV cars are poor, especially on software side.

We’re scared of Chinese selling way cheaper cars but companies like Ford and Dodge are selling average cars like they’re high end luxury cars. Smh

Energy is so expensive in Germany and they ended up destroying their nuclear energy industry, what a tomfoolery action to take...

the world is no longer G7 centric. the developing world is the alternative market for China product when it losing the western market. American can impose high tariff on chinese products but then the chinese will sell to developing world instead. not end of the world. but western consumers should prepare for the high inflation.

Until Tesla came along the Germans were happy to sell very expensive models with 150hp, now they woke up and started offering more powerful standard cars. It's a sign of how they do business basically

But for all the old brand Germany Autos, they all experienced decline in profit, ranging from -15% to -70%.

Now they're happy because they can blame Trump for their own mistakes.

German automakers, particularly Audi, BMW and Mercedes, should recognise that their reputation has fallen apart and that they are no longer regarded as premium brands which replaced with Porsche. Chinese automobiles look quality, are affordable, and have current technology that BMW and Mercedes have failed to offer and compete on.

The biggest advantage to China in all of these trade wars and trade restriction from US and EU is - the west self-entitlement, reluctancy to change, not wanting to humble down and do the basics, and overall in denial of the changing world order from west to the east and global south.

China has a authoritarian government but their policies are flexible especially in economics, whereas the west has liberal governments but very rigid economic policy. China is more capitalist in many ways than the west. Very interesting contrast!

German industry needs to solve its fundamental energy security issue before it can truly get back to any sort of sustainable growth model.

I toured with the German American Chamber of Commerce in 2019 exploring mobility solutions in Germany among the manufacturers and the government entities. There was a lot of this current situation is what happens when there is no real leadership to make progress in one direction or the other. Five years of drift and now the panic? Were all of those kids working on their Fridays for nothing?

The main issue with the Western car industry is that it can't make a cheap car. Tariffs will NOT help them because Western people's purchasing power is diminishing due to inflation.

I KNOW THE IDEA BEHIND TARIFFS ... Tariffs are created to be one of the sources of income to the government !!

German auto makers need to make better cars. Here in the US most people say German cars non reliable, and maintenance price is too high, and always have problems few yrs after purchase. No wonder why big consumers choose Japanese or domestic cars. No one wants to spend over 80k for cars have issues
