US Marine Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technicians are a military unit dealing with bombs and bomb squad tactics. They perform various duties, including locating, accessing, identifying, rendering safe, neutralizing, and disposing of hazards from foreign and domestic, chemical biological, radiological nuclear, and high-yield explosive, unexploded explosive ordnance.

When he showed the memorial I cried because it’s so sad that some the soldiers that leave their families for months will end up leaving them forever and they won’t get to say goodbye 😢

I’m currently in DEP for EOD in the Air Force. I ship out November 15th to basic. Great to see EOD getting some love!

Oh, wow Austen, this brings me back to the days when I went through EOD School (1981), only I went back in the days when the Chemical Phase was at Redstone Arsenal AL. and Surface and IED's were at Indianhead Maryland. I still remember going through the chem phase in July losing 20 lbs. of water in the Butel Rubber suits (we called them Brutal Rubber suits along with a very uncomfortable M9 Mask) packaging a live leaking Mustard round. And Surface Phase at Indianhead in the dead of winter out on Stump Neck Point at the demo range with the Atlantic on one side and the Potomac on the other, wind and snow blowing 90 out nothing. Lucky IED's back then was mostly in classroom. Today it is much more sophisticated and intense for good reason. I am happy that the school has now been moved to Eglin AFB, at least the winters are milder. I hope to be at the EOD Banquet this coming year and see some of my old soldiers from back in the day. Too bad they didn't allow you to really blow something up, because once you do it's like having sex you just can't get enough and want more.

Bro. My squad escorted EOD in Iraq often. It was cool to watch them pick up unexploded IEDS EFPS or whatever the insurgency was using. We'd drive to the middle of the desert, they would set it up, move 500 yards away and make a huge boom.
