How an INFAMOUS blooper CHANGED NHL history

Everyone remembers Patrik Stefan's missed empty netter, but what's often forgotten is the context around it. If Stefan had scored the goal, the NHL could have looked very different. Could Patrick Kane have been a member of the Edmonton Oilers?

“Averaged less than 30 points per game” ? That sounds reasonable 😂

I really wish Patrick Stefan would have 30 points a game average

Nice of TSN to rip off youtube channel Hockey Psychology's "This 'Mistake' Changed NHL Hockey Forever" video from a year ago

The puck did hop on him right at the top of the crease.

Also that's a lot of ifs in there.

This situation could apply to the Hawks now if you think about it. If Kane’s buzzer beater against Vegas counted as a goal, they would’ve had one extra point and would have had the 4th overall pick and possibly never draft Bedard

Kane in Edmonton = no Draisaitl or McDavid in Edmonton. Butterfly effect is undefeated

It all worked out for us Oilers faithful. We love Gagner and he set the record AGAINST Chicago - The very team that could have drafted him.

We also got McDavid and Draisaitl.

I remember watching this live while playing poker with some buddies. We couldn't believe our eyes. Short term bad luck not getting Kane but, in the long term, it worked out for the Oilers in the sense that everything over the years needed to line up perfectly for us to get McDavid.

Great video, hoping more like it happen. Hockey history could be really different if certain events happened differently

This video is well done. I am impressed with the clips you were able to find.

More content like this please 😊

That would have meant no Connor McDavid in Edmonton.

IF Kane goes to the Oilers then they might've won the cups. they wouldnt have McDavid or Nuge with the first overall picks they had

I’ll never forget where I was when I watched that Stefan mishap. 32 years of watching hockey it is top 2 of craziest goals I’ve ever seen. The other that in my eyes has tied it was Crosbys golden goal.

Would Kane Have beat and robbed a cab driver in Edmonton?

Karma bailed us out when a crappy Oiler team pulled out a win for Ryan Smyth’s last game (where he finally got to wear the C), pushing the Oilers ahead of the Panthers in the standings. The Panthers then won the lottery, selecting Ekblad, and the Oilers had to “settle” for Draisaitl

Marc andre bergeron though. not only was the guy a turnover factory, he blew out the knee of the oilers '06 cup, probably.

was that Ray Ferraro ripping on Stefan for missing the empty net? its not like he was going through his legs or some fancy play to score.

Edmonton didn't get Patrick Kane so they decided to get the next best one, Evander Kane.

Sort of ok….
But also
We all know the oilers
They’d have Drafted Kyle Turris as they’d just gone to the final with a bigger team and McTavish hated skill.
