I keep Frank Herbert's Dune always within reach near my bed when I can't fall asleep.
The deep and subtle display of the characters' inner dialogues intrigue me time and time again....simply hooked forever. I'm not the only one.

Never could read Malraux.  I'd start, read a few pages, then fall asleep.  Though I always wanted to, since he was a hero of the Spanish Civil War and the French Resistance.

You actually pronounced "la coscienza di zeno" quite well! If you want to give another chance to italian literature, I highly recommend Dino Duzzati short stories and basically everything written by Calvino e Pirandello!

I really enjoy reading Italo Calvino. He writes several beautiful works. Two favorites are Le città invisibili (Invisible Cities) and Il barone rampante (The Baron in the Trees). I'm not sure if there are French translations, but the English ones are good!

Dostoevsky is really Thing!I love his sarcastic and ironic way of writing.Reading now "Karamazov brothers" and enjoying it so far.After he published white nights he was arrested so it should be good read

In highschool I had to read La coscienza di Zeno and I didn't like it either! Svevo is not the most interesting italian writer, let me tell you that...I would highly recommend the book 'Feu Mattia Pascal' (I've looked up the french title), 'Il fu Mattia pascal' in italian; I think you'd really enjoy it! It's a true, timeless masterpiece by the great Luigi Pirandello.

I finished a book recently called 'The Psychedelic Experience: A Manual Based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead' by Timothy Leary, Ralph Metzner and Richard Alpert.

If your in to the whole "Mind Expanding" thing, I highly recommend it.
