Imagine my excitement at the thought of going from manual Bridgeport turret mill to one that you could do a computer command to make it move itself . There at the beginning of cnc around 1978-1980 ended up on Bridgeport VMC 4 axis 1999

Great video and smart move showing traditional control right after saying that it is like a phone lol. Put tape over the camera! As a beginner I find it much easier to achieve success on machines that let me do what I want compared to the ones that give me options about what I can do next. Is there a milling machine control available today where you can open a program and tell the machine to give say 3x stock to leave on high efficiency roughing toolpath on that day so the machine recalculates all the toolpaths and a novice set up guy has some room for extra finish passes on wall and floor so the last setup pass would be at exact production settings?

Sometimes, it's not good to have all the buttons ona screen, because they all have the same action... Z + and - feels the same way, just a screen press. It can be dangerous for an operator.
