Hello 1950s! The era of convenience food. And we are making a fabulous, quick dessert using glorious peaches and biscuit mix! Such an easy dessert to make at home!

1- 29 Oz Can Sliced Peaches
1/8 TSP Salt
1 1/2 Cups Biscuit Mix
1 1/2 TBS Sugar
9 TBS Milk

Drain juice from peaches and reserve 3/4 cup. Place peaches, measured peach juice and salt in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil and boil for 5 minutes. Make sure peaches are on their sides. Mix biscuit mix and milk in a separate bowl. Drop by spoonfuls on top of peaches, not juice. Cover and simmer on medium heat for 15 minutes. Do not lift lid! Spoon out into serving dishes and feel the 1950s convenience food age!!

And here's the fresh peach version:

4 1/2 Cups Fresh Peaches, Peeled and Sliced
6 TBS Sugar
6 TBS Water
1/8 TSP salt

Boli slowly in a deep saucepan for 5 minutes. You don't need to remove any of the juice for this version. Proceed with the baking mix part.

This was absolutely a childhood dessert. It was prepared sometimes with Bisquick and also from scratch dumplings. Perfect for the cooler weather coming. Only it seems to already be here in my area. It was 47 degrees at 8 am this morning when it was 95 degrees with oppressive humidity a few days ago.

Wow, Jill, these dumplings look great. I like how you showed how light and fluffy the dumplings were. Amazing!
This looks so easy. Yes, since baking mix was introduced in 1930, you are definitely OK to use it. It is so interesting to think about how people back then used canned and premade mixes to create delicious foods. Thanks for sharing!

Love this 50s dish....
My mum used to make dumplings like this but instead of sugar she would use salt and pepper and pop them onto a bubbling stew on top of the stove.
She always tells the story of when she was first married and my dad said he liked real big dumplings. Well of course, she made them too big and when she came back to the stove? They were lifting the lid !...🤣😂
Real nice video to watch as always Jill...
Have a great weekend...👍

Wow - this looks good and so easy. I think I would double the peaches - I love fruit and pastry, but I like to have a whole lot of fruit with it, whether it’s shortcake or cobbler or dumplings.

I remember my grandmother making a variation of this for her friends when they dropped by. I don't think we have anything like baking mix in my corner of Canada, but she made a cinnamon biscuit dough and used that for the dumplings. Thanks for the trip down memory lane :)

This looks fabulous! I love how the dumplings are almost like microwave mug cakes. I wonder if this recipe, and ones like it, were the originator of the mug cake?

Do you think this would save weird nectarines? DH bought me nectarines at the vegetable stand. They are soft but when I ate one, it was not sweet, kind of dry and starchy. They are in a paper bag with some hope on the counter. Maybe they'll ripen. I don't keep bisquick in the house. I just look up the substitution in case I need it:

1 cup all-purpose flour.
1½ teaspoons baking powder.
½ teaspoon salt.
1 tablespoon vegetable oil (or melted unsalted butter, shortening)

Can you use pancake mix as a substitute for baking mix?
