If you can make it look THIS natural you earned it

Nah he kept his stride like you said it doesn’t look awkward like he kicked at it or something. That’s clean

As someone who doesn't play baseball this is awesome lol. If a player can time that and are willing to take a ball to the shin then give em a break imo

If it is deliberate, it's so smooth that it fooled me. Either truly unintentional, smiling because he realized what that would mean, or he's a genius actor.

“Well there’s literally no evidence that is was on purpose but it’s definitely on purpose”

Yes it should be legal. I compare this to a football rule that's gone across shorts a few times. A kick-off that lands just in bounds, but let's say at 5, receiver can step out of bounds, make contact with the ball, therefore making the ball out of play, moving the spot up to the 25.
Knowing the rules and using them to your advantage without breaking them is not cheating, it's strategy.

If the runner didn't break stride and didn't even look at the ball, that means that the runner did not allow the ball to hit him on purpose.

He didn't move awkwardly or anything, the ball hit him

This should count as a Fielder’s choice rather than a hit imo

Rizzo is the least afraid to get hit by a baseball of anyone I’ve ever seen

If you can manage to pull it off this smoothly and give the umps absolutely nothing to go off of, touché

The Yankees always do everything to stop a double play 😂

This right here is why I love Rizzo. I'm not even a Cubs or Yankees fan (Or Padres fan). Watching him execute the fundamentals and making high IQ plays is just perfection.

That's fine. As stated he never broke his stride or looked to see exactly where the ball was. He just took his chances and tried to be where the ball was going to be. What I DON'T get is why it was scored a hit. If anything it should be a fielder's choice. Risso was out everyone else moved up one base, and if the ball hadn't hit him you can't assume a double play but you can assume they make the out at second base.

Rizzo was laughing inside the entire time. That guy cracks me up.

Okay, here's one for ya (for either of of you – for or against);

Taking a shot to the ankle
(from a MLB hit hard ball )
, will make your ankle swell for a bit.

And over time, your ankles will be thicker, making you SLOWER.

So, whether you're for or against him doing it on purpose;

You should leap a little with you feet and AVOID THAT BALL.

There, I said it, TRUTH.

(I've been thinking about joints the last couple of days, lol)

It's amazing how Rizzo was able to think quickly enough to go against all instict and know to break up the double play in such a short amount of time.

Funny how he short-strided right in front of the ball to be sure he got hit. It was hard to see in real time, but you can see it pretty clearly in slow motion.

In my opinion, all the rules about a batter ball hitting a runner/throne ball hitting a runner should only apply if the ball is in the air. If it bounces then hits the runner it’s considered an error or if it’s a throw then it’s just bad luck if it’s directly off the back.
