My father was a docker, as was I. Jack Dash and his gang first tried to stop crane drivers from doing this and they ignored him, then to save face tried to claim he’d got them this money. All lies. Most dockers wanted to show their respect for a great wartime leader. They might have wanted to get a decent wage but wanted nothing to do with him using them for his own ambitions. I’m glad to say when Dash snuffed it NO ONE cared.

As the saying goes, you don’t have to like him, but you have to respect him.

This is my first childhood memory. It still makes me cry after more than 50 years. RIP Sir Winston Churchill the greatest Englishman ever.

Putting aside containerisation for a moment, here's a perfect example of entrenched ignorance and a reason why the docks closed prematurely.

His price was freedom for us all, theirs was but a bonus in the wage packet.

I believe the crane operators only agreed after being offered triple time. Not really a surprise, many suffered from rationing whilst churchhill managed to remain morbidly obsese throughout the war. Sadly the war was fought to preserve the privilege of the few rather than the freem of the many as per usual. War is waged by rich old men and paid in the blood of poor young men. Rant over.

Not sure what slugger's role is in the right side but spoils some great historical video. Trying to be funny, it was a bomb. Sorry dude.
