I hope this man's family, truly, knows the sacrifices he made to further us all.

Scott fascinates me. He seems to be a very reserved guy, but you just know there's so much going on up in his head. It almost seems like it pains him to be wasting time on earth- he seems so much more in his element "up there". I'm really fascinated by astronaut psychology, I really wish there was more literature on it out there- the vast majority of them seem to come back profoundly changed, but they seem to be really good at hiding it. Does that make sense? They're trained professionals of the highest order and no doubt experience the full array of human emotions on their missions, albeit at a much greater depth, but they can't really show them. It's almost like what they experience while in space can't be quantified in any way, so they end up feeling isolated from the rest of humanity. The starkest of contrasts to me was seeing Scott back home in episode 12 of this series... the monotony of everyday life seems so painfully lacklustre for him after living in space-- this highly volatile and deeply mysterious beautiful expanse-- for so long. Seeing him retire to his suburban cookie-cutter house was depressing- I can't imagine the weight of it on him, knowing he'll never get to return to where he's always felt most alive. Time, this was an absolutely incredible series- the best I've seen in ages- and it's an absolute travesty more people haven't been exposed to it. Incredible work.

Simply amazing, the fact that we have advanced so much in 100 years... it brings tears to my eyes. So proud to be living in this age. So proud to be studying mechanical engineering!
