Hi. I added this comment not to write the same answer multiple times.
1.) Yes, I could turn the radio off, but it doesn’t consume too much power and during starting it is off anyway because of unloader relay, so I don’t think it would helped much. Everything else was off.
2.) Yes, it was too risky to keep cracking for so long, but battery was old (charging whole night) and maybe if I try to start more times, it would not have had enough power to start cranking again.
3.) Why I didn’t start immediately after glow sign goes off? Preheating takes longer then sing is active. So, I was waiting until preheating is finished completely. It is normal behavior of the ECU and preheating unit.
4.) Glow plugs were unknow condition. This had probably a bad influence.
5.) You don’t need to be rude in comments.

Anyway, I was able to start, not ideal start, but many cars weren’t. Starter keeps working. Battery and glow plug were replaced.

incredible!!! battery was just about to give up !!!! but i think one should do the 2 or 3 glow plug heatings, one right after the other, no delays in between, and at the 3rd try, CRANK it exactly as the light goes out, the ECU will continue energizing the plugs as it cranks; if you wait long, the ECU may have already disconnected them, and then it will be a miracle start, like you just did.

I live in Siberia, Russia. Cold weather is normal for us (-30c), sometimes-40c. My toyota can start engine everytime whatever weather. I use oil engine 5w30 and i have good battery. Ps: We protect the radiator from cold air and insulate the engine.

If diesel is to be used in these cold climates, you should definitely purchase external block heating systems.Otherwise, it significantly reduces the life of the starter system and battery and may break the abs system after a long time.

455k and the machine still works. I love old school BMW's, especially the e34 and e39.

I red your description and all I can tell you is that those people with rude comments never actually been in situation to start up their own diesel in temperatures below -10. Or maybe even below 0. Other than that, the song in this whole situation is funny and would be frustrating for me.

Such nice cars - thanks for the video. Yes, I think one or three of the glow plugs might have been bad. But well done getting it going.

I don't know why everybody keep writing rip starter, rip battery ? It wasnt that long cranking and battery was low. It is almoust a normal start off an older diesel wheicle on extreme minus weather. Chill!

Weirdest car start I've ever heard. And that song on the radio is brutal. Great entertainment all in all.

This radio song is some kind of pre - heating the driver, to not get upset because of the minute in loving memory of Rudolf Diesel ;)
