You did a really good job of explaining about the aphids. Thank you! We’ve had a problem with them this year and it’s driving me nuts! I don’t want to use insecticides, but I haven’t been able to defeat them either. It’s a fine line. When it’s not so easy to run to the grocery then I guess we will have to do whatever we need to do. God bless your family.

Thank you for this information, Jill. I will be on the lookout. I have 2 giant crape myrtles in my yard as well as a whole mess of other plants. I have seen ants on one but I thought they were just drawn to the hummingbird feeder I have hanging from a limb. I will be taking a closer look now!

Really informative, I learned a lot from this one Jill. Sure hoping for good results with your next steps to get those critters under con-TROL!!

Well...here is my 2 cents. In my first vegetable garden in a community garden plot I planted a sunflower on each corner of the garden. Ants stayed on those all summer and I did not have aphids on my tomatoes. For roly poly bugs I put diatomaceous powder on the ground only around plants. In the cinder block holes I grew fabulous yellow marigolds. Winter garden I am not sure about yet. The sunflowers have died and the marigolds are having near death experiences. 😊

Pulled 4 pepper plants last weekend and heading out to take out another one or 2 now. Guess I’m going to be pickling and dehydrating some peppers this weekend.

We're in north DFW and have been battling them all summer. Crape Myrtles especially bad, I read prune then systemic but in the spring. Also, mealybugs have ruined my Thai chili after 2 nice harvests. They look like little white trilobite fossils covered in silk and are tenacious. The exhaust from our greenhouse fan had been providing a nice breeze to the pepper patch, when we shut down the greenhouse (and fan) due to the crazy heat, that's when the aphids and mealybugs attacked.

look up Azatin XL for your greenhouse.

Knocking them off with sharp sprays of water hose top and bottom of leaves on your ornamental has always worked for me.

Swarms of bugs give me the willies! Probably because I'm allergic to insect stings? Or maybe because of living in the climates where they tend to swarm? Anyway, I'm usually pretty good about preventive measure on ants and aphids. if things get out of hand I'm not afraid to judiciously use the "lowest wattage" of insecticide I can and still get them under control. I don't mind sharing, but they have to leave enough for me to harvest! I've released lady bugs, mantises, and lacewings several times over the years, plus we spray beneficial nematodes at least once a year to help control fleas, ticks, and other bad bugs.
Y'all are doing everything you can, so that's all you can do. Every year it seems like there is something that gets into our gardens or livestock and tries to wreak havoc. Preventive measure, vigorous plants, companion/decoy planting and good garden sanitation practices can't stop them all, all of the time.
Good onfo and solid advice. Thanks again, you two! Hugs and blessings.

I had a problem with aphids in my little greenhouse I grew jalapeños in and no matter how many times I sprayed with neem oil and dish soap nothing worked. After I had what I needed on jalapeños I cleaned the greenhouse up and shut it down hopefully the heat inside is killing all of the aphids . I didn’t have any problems in my raised bed garden

Can you recommend a good veggie wash? Thanks

Thank you so much for your videos. I live near DFW airport and it is so hot also. I thought that if I used neem oil, it would burn my plants because of the heat. Does it not do that to yours during this heat?

Aphids drive me crazy....every year they are all over my Purple Hull Peas but never touch my Black Eye pea plants. I have ants and aphids on various plants every year. Thank you for your videos! <3

Is there a bird we can attract to our gardens to eat them? Curious. I had alot of white moths.

Yep. I have them on my milkweed. I'm ordering lady bugs soon.

supposedly aphids can be related to too much nitrogen (fertilizer imbalance)
