Years ago I knew a fireman/paramedic that worked a stretch of road with the highest rate of fatal vehicle accidents in the country. She said that she had never unbuckled a dead person. She had scrapped up the remains of people thrown from the vehicles and removed lots of dead people from trees.

I heard a Florida State Trooper say "I've never unbuckled a dead man". That worked for me regarding using seatbelts.

The seat belt thing is so sad. I was a rescue medic in our fire department for many years and the number of people that are dead that would have walked away from relatively minor accidents is astounding. If not for you, then where it for your family so they don't have to be destroyed upon you dying.

I was in a rollover accident in a Jeep with no top. Seatbelts absolutely saved our lives.

"Don't believe in seat belts"!!! As a student I stayed in a house that was on the corner where a one directional 4 lane road crossed a 2 lane, bidirectional road. Every, yes every weekend there were a crash. 99% of the time it was at least one drunk driver. I saw what no seat belts does in an accident. How two very large men went through a compact car's sun roof. Also learned, that, when the ambulance pulls off and switch off it's lights, then the patient was already dead. Maybe the judge should give them community service in the ER on a Friday/Saturday night?

The seat belt saved my sister's life when she got hit by a drunk driver cops thought she was dead when they saw her car. And it also saved my wife's life as well. It prevented her from flying through the wind shield. That was a long time ago. So seat bealts do safe lives. One click, that's all.

Give anyone who tailgates a ticket, Frank. That is most definitely my biggest pet peeve when driving. Tell that first lady that wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle may not be required by law in some states, but it's required by common sense. All the people who complain about wearing seatbelts obviously have never seen an airbag deploy.

Retired nurse here. To all of those seat belt naysayers, you may be the best, most cautious driver on the road but if you are hit or rolled by another less diligent driver and are ejected from your car, your life will change FOREVER. Believe in seat belts. They are apolitical. They work, they save lives. Don’t be a fool. And don’t get me started on the prudence of not wearing a motorcycle helmet…
