Blue Morpho Butterfly | Untamed

Despite its name, Blue Morpho Butterfly’s wings are not actually blue at all! While they may appear this way, this is not the result of pigmentation. It is actually caused by the way light reflects off the microscopic scales on its wings.

Sublime beauty. Brings memories of my childhood, the first time I saw one in the forests of my country Ecuador.

Unpopular opinion: theses are prettier than the monarch butterflies.

Uff, what irony - 4 months to develop into beautiful butterfly, and then, less than 4 weeks to feed and find a mate and give birth to next generation ? Life is tough !!

These morphos are very common here were I live in Central Brazil. But not in urban areas, you have to go the woods to spot them. The two most common here: Morpho menelaus and Morpho helenor.

Morpho peleides, the Peleides blue morpho, common morpho or the emperor is an iridescent tropical butterfly found in Mexico, Central America, northern South America, Paraguay and Trinidad. Most authorities believe that peleides is a subspecies of Morpho helenor.

What do they pollinate though? They feed on fallen fruit, not flowers as far as I know

Do the wings help them camouflage at all?

Stunning cinematography, but National Geographic, I really dislike the horrible and most distracting type on your videos. I guess it is provided for people watching on phones, with sound muted in public. If you want to make video for phones, choose a square frame rather than 16/9 and please mark them as such (so I can more easily avoid selecting those to watch!) And for videos you want people with large screens to enjoy at best quality, please focus on visual quality and use narration for providing info, not type that pulls focus away from the imagery.

Would prefer a narrator instead of the music and text.
