Recently, the National Security Advisor of India stated that extremism and terrorism are against the very meaning of Islam. He said that Islam means peace and well-being. Given the deep connection of Ulemas or the Muslim scholars with civil society, he stressed their key role in fighting extremism by educating the people on the original tolerant and moderate principles of Islam. Religion should be a source of peace and not a reason for conflict or violence. Religion should be a unifying tool and not a divisive instrument. Progressive ideas and thoughts, collaborative efforts towards deradicalization, promoting true values espoused by religion, action against negative influences, thwarting propaganda and hate, nurturing energies of youth in the right direction, and promoting multi-faith harmony and coexistence.
