It's important to educate people on current jobs market, there is too much false marketing failing peoples expectations.

Nothing wrong with being a UX/UI designer but if you can learn Web Design/Development or Digital Marketing on top of that, it can make you a great contender amongst other applicants. There are so many free learning resources that staying within just one field now could potentially limit your opportunities.

Thanks for your take on this Ran. I think its good to be honest with these designers about the reality of the industry. Like anything else, it's not going to be easy but it IS possible! I think the sky is still the limit for UX/UI designers but only those that put in the time, work to build an impressive portfolio, and learn other useful skills to make them an asset to their clients and employers! 💪

I Spent over 6 months looking for a Jr UI UX position and applied to at least 400+ openings and heard nothing or was rejected. I have a Google UI UX certificate, an extremely strong graphic design background, I have a degree in CS, and proficient skills in HTML, CSS, Javascript, and React. 1000% agree! this is definitely the move. Don't waste your time and energy looking for a Jr UI UX role

I don’t think it is impossible to get a job in tech. But i do think many people have a false impression of how much effort they have to put into their self managed education. Its not enough to do a bootcamp a few hours a week. I have done a 1 year bootcamp in a physical office. I didnt treat this year as a slow bootcamp where i only worked like 4-5 hrs a dayand only during week days..no..i did it about 12hrs every dy including most weekends. Had basically no vacation. Just kept my head down and worked and strived to make it as much fun as possible. Eventually it became fun and i didnt thin of it just as hard work I am now at the end of that year and i have had multiple offers as a frontend dev and ux designer, currently in an internship now and next week i am starting at a new job. So are therenojobs? No, there are plenty, but i think many people might not be up for putting in the hours it takes. So whoever reads this and you feel a bit defeated or lacking motivation. You can do this..if i can do it, you sure as hell can..trust me!

I got my web design degree in 2016 and could not find a job, then I got a job as a graphic designer, then web admin, Adobe tutor, I got UX cert from CUNY tech works and no job in UX or web. I work in a marketing agency now but the pay is terrible. I need to make at least 80 k to survive in NY and I am not close to that at all

Yes! I SO appreciate the honesty. Between my bootcamp that nearly promised me a quick job in the industry to various coaches boasting about how their paid programs will get you a job in the industry - it can feel like an endless and fruitless journey without this very real context.

it's not just the bootcamp people. Junior, mid level, associates are struggling to land a job

This topic is quite depressing. I honestly have given up on tech after years of no opportunities. I have a Bachelor's degree with a focus in design.. That got me a customer service job. Finished a UX design certification and even landed a UX internship... After the internship... still no design job. It's been frustrating and all of this work feels useless.

I just completed a bootcamps by a company called, Career Foundry. I spent 7000 dollars on it and about 90% of what they taught was also easily searchable on YouTube and just shredded my expectations so much. They also had a "1 on 1" mentor who would coach you. They were awful, I had 3 in total because 2 of them just quit responding while the last was very helpful but also went radio silent. I have 3 projects of high quality on behance and I haven't even applied to jobs yet because I just have a feeling I will have wasted my time. If you guys have had any similar experiences please let me know I'm curious if anyone has also faced this.

Thank you for the video!! I`m an enginner and currently I`m trying to change carrer. My initial plan was to switch to graphic design but with the progress of AI it`s king of demotivating. Second though was UI/UX design but I see now a lot of people not encouraging this field. I`m back to have a feeling that I`m lost and stuck with something I really don`t like doing :/

Great video. I spent about 8000 hours on web design and development in the past few years, including obtaining a diploma from a respectable college and I gave up on trying to find a job in this field. I was able to score a few freelance jobs, but I could only keep looking so long before I realized it was just not going to happen. Then, I switched to being an ESL teacher and I started making a decent living right away.

Just recently lost my job as a junior product designer for a small design agency. Luckily I had another job on the side that was able to hire me full time. I feel incredibly lucky since a lot of my old very talented classmates still don't have one. It's a rough market indeed, hopefully it gets better in the future.

This is utterly discouraging and I don’t know what to do with my current situation. I’ve been dedicating all my free time to learning UX/UI (I work full time in project management). I’m still very early on but I’m liking UX and considering a potential career change. When I hear things like this I’d be a fool not to believe it but I’m stuck somewhere between “it’s impossible? I’ll show them!” and at the other end of the spectrum, maybe I should just stop before sunk cost fallacy creeps in. Do I continue and let it play out hoping the landscape for hiring gets better in a year or so or just find a new skill to learn? Has ANYONE heard of people successfully career switching into UX recently? Does my professional working experience give me any advantage?

I've spoken to a few recruiters who have told me that they post entry level/junior UX Designer job postings with the full intent of hiring someone with a senior background. They're getting thousands of applicants per job posting, and a lot of them are very experienced designers willing to work for a junior salary just to have a job, because they know how scarce and competitive it is right now.

It is definitely tough getting in. I was in a boot camp about a year and a half ago and I think still some of my cohort are trying to find jobs using the skills we learned. I was lucky I had family in the field so when a position opened up I could get in there and help the company grow their design with my mentor (before us they only used contract designers) now that I’ve been here for a year and made myself invaluable they don’t want to let me go lol. I also have a big background in all sorts of art and design principles already so I do naturally have a good eye for things and think creatively which I think was a huge boost in my value as an employee. The market really only wants you either coming in with a lot of experience or really exceptional design skills. So it’s not for the faint of heart.

The UX design job market is just stabilizing. Ppl were so focused on following hundreds of designers with no real background besides visual design maybe, for example. But visual design is not the only thing that matters when getting into the product design job market. Once when it was so popular during the beginning of the 20's, everyone was going on the UI trend completely excluding the quality UX, thanks to "design influencers". And those who got Jr jobs during those years, the UI/UX Design boom are now being targeted for layoffs, cuz they don't bring a significant value to company business. And now those design influencers are being targeted as well due to lack of qualifications. That's why I think we are headed more towards the stabilized Product Design market in the future and less layoffs happening.

Wait what is the difference between ui ux vs Web design? Aren't they doing the same thing?

I disagree UI/UX design has essentially become 'product Designer' the market is saturated with those roles

I did an online UI/UX design boot camp and I can't find a JNR UI/UX design job.
