I just bought this same one last week. I also have a modem-router combo but instead of buying a new modem I just turned off router mode in the settings. Now it just works as a modem. That way one doesn't have to go and buy another modem.
Still watching the vid but I definitely like the router. It's the first one I've ever bought that wasnt a combo.

For checking speed test and ping I suggest not to use Speedtest. It only shows ideal situation without internet traffic. You can compare it to you morning drive to work where is no one on road. It never happens...
Would be ideal but not in real life.
Better tool is DSL report. There you can choose a server to connect close to your game servers if you know where are they are. And that tool shows bufferbloat and it shows more precisely your actual ping and how good your connection is.
