Wampler Tumnus Pedal Demo - Tom Quayle

There is one overdrive circuit to this day has been the most talked about, the most sought after, and the most mythical of them all. It’s big, it’s expensive, and it has certainly earned its place at the table. Wampler has painstakingly and faithfully reproduced that magical tone in all its glory in an unbelievably small package, and his name is Tumnus.

Tumnus is a versatile addition to any setup, any style. Stack it with another pedal to help push or shape the total amount of gain, use it as a stand alone overdrive, or use it as a slightly dirty boost to push the front end of your amp over the edge. You can even use it as a buffer, because just like the original this pedal is not true bypass. Instead, faithful to the original, this pedal contains a buffered bypass tone legendary in its own right.

Three knobs and the truth: The Tumnus’ streamlined 3 control knobs (Volume, Gain, and Tone) allow you to quickly dial in your tones no matter what the gig calls for. We aren’t going to sit here and claim it has magical parts, or we sourced out 60 year old diodes that make it perfect, but we are going to say that during our research we looked at everything available and then only used the parts that Brian chose to replicate that amazing tone.

Let’s face it, not everyone has room for a four-legged beast on their board. This slender biped slips in and out of a myriad of tight situations. Now you can have the tone. Now you can have history. Now you can have it all without having to send some pedals back to the bullpen. The Wampler Tumnus, standing up for that amazing tone, but without the outrageous claims often associated with it.

The pedal is nice, but man I could listen to this guy play all day! Off the charts- great technique and feel. Incredible command of the instrument.

Absolutely wonderful playing and a great demonstration of a really nice sounding pedal. Great stuff.

it sounds like it's a subtle thing, in that your original sound is still there but is enriched harmonically but it still sounds natural. The gain being turned up sounds more like a guitar using it's volume knob on a medium/light saturation from the clean channel. very nice

Tom- your playing is like meditation for me.  I could watch/listen all day and be better for it!

I think that when you play like him, any pedal is irrelevant

Awesome chops, per usual.
I have a Tumnus on the way.
May be that mythical creature indeed!

Thanks for the vid, Tom.

Is there a big difference with the Archer Ikon? Will you be able to make a comparison between the Tumnus and Archer Ikon?

As always, great guitar playing! Great demo!

Hey Tom, what other pedals are you running in this video for delay and perhaps compression?

You could prolly run that first Fibinare through a shitty Line6 Spider, and it would still sound orgasmic. It's got tone for days. It generally sounds better than any singlecut I've ever heard. PRS comes close, but they drop the ball in too many regards.
Too bad it is prolly out of my price range, and I couldn't have one even if I could afford it. All of the dealers in my neck of the woods only carry the "standard" brands (Fender, Gibson, PRS, MusicMan, Godin etc.) as far as I know, and I swore a long time ago that I would never buy a guitar that I hadn't touched and played first. I've just been burned too many times by online retailers, and the shoddy shipping companies that they seem to like using. I suppose I could go get a nice Godin (made here in Canada, ) but if you want a good one, you have to pay an arm and a leg for it. They have lots of low to mid-range instruments that just don't catch my good graces, but their high-end stuff is damn good.
I just wish I could find one without all that midi/ghost system crap in it. It seems to me that those extra electronics are what drive the price so far out of my range, and I tend to prefer a more pure signal path (I removed the tone control in my Jackson Soloist, and the tone improved immensely, for example.) The more shite you have in front of the amp, the less feel is actually maintained, and I am all about responsiveness and feel.

Mini case is sweet. "Transparency" is a supposed joke but dang. I could play like Tom if I wanted. Wampler rocks.
