Drawer Slide Terminology - Disconnects And The Different Types.

There are four different 'disconnect' methods you'll find on drawer slides. All four methods allow for the user to take the drawer out of the cabinet without using any screws or hardware.

For more information please visit Accuride at:

By definition, a disconnect allows the drawer member to be disconnected from the rest of the slide. This makes them more flexible and easier to install.

Friction Disconnect Slides - To remove this drawer, simply pull the drawer past the ball retainer. This is the easiest method of disconnect and the only one that doesn't use latches or levels

Lever Disconnect Slides - By pushing down on a lever you can remove a drawer with this type of disconnect method. This is slightly harder to remove but is also more secure.

Push Latch Disconnect Slides - Instead of a lever the push latch uses a small button that locks the drawer in place. To remove, push the button down and slide the drawer out over it.

Rail Disconnect Slides - There are actually two types of rail disconnects. The first type uses a latch to disconnect rail from the slide. The other type comes without the latch, allowing the user to lift the drawer off the slide once it reaches full extension.

I have a rail disconnect type 1 on a desk in our office. It took me an hour to get it off. The problem was the worker at the factory drove a screw on the end of each rail securing it fast to the drawer! I don't know why there are screw holes in the ends of the rails.

Can you please show which slides are non-disconnect? Thanks!
