Minimum wage laws take away more of YOUR choices. Do you want someone else calling the shots in your life?

Can we just take a moment to admire how respectful both people were? The man asking the question did so and then remained silent as Shapiro gave his answer, not trying to interrupt or throw his own opinions in there, and Shapiro gave his explanation without sounding rude or attacking.

Some jobs really aren't worth $15 an hour, and some people's work ethic sure isn't worth $15 an hour.

Funny as it is, when the new minimum wages were being discussed, I started seeing less employees & a lot more self service & kiosks everywhere... 🤔

The reason why I dont work minimum wage anymore is because I've worked minimum wage before, when I was 17.

Minimum wage is for kids who graduate high school. And most places that pay minimum wage is not negotiable at all.

Raise minimum wage.
Employer has increased wage bill.
Employer increases sales price to cover increased wage bill.
Prices go up.
Rising prices mean Minimum wage is no longer sufficient.

Repeat.

A city-wide minimum wage is one thing. Even county-wide. But nation-wide, when there's a HUGE disparity between the actual purchasing power of $15 in New Jersey versus $15 in Mississippi, it just doesn't work.

Worker: I want higher min wage.
Wage: Goes up*
Boss: Can't pay worker and has to let him go*
Worker: Wait...

They keep putting up minimum wage in NZ. So I have never had a raise and the cost of living goes up every time.

I watched a documentary many years ago where a bunch of college students went down to Mexico and were trying to get some business shut down for "exploiting" their workers.. the employees worked really hard to keep the protesters out because they made really good money for that area.. and were afraid that some rich college students would get their job closed down.. in which case they could no longer provide for their families..

Really made me sad to see this.. but it opened my eyes..

The other day AOC was bitching that a croissant at the airport cost $7. Well duh, the minimum wage at the airport is $19 per hr. Prices have to go up to cover the cost of keeping the cashier employed.

I'm an employer at a small factory (outsource company). The min wage kept going up, and the products that I sold did not (due to competition). So, I hired less people (I let go some expensive people too). Limited funds, you know. Sure, we get less revenue, but the cost went down too. I had to balance things out. So I understand why the companies would hire less.

Nothing Ben said “killed” the min wage argument.

Folks listen....its called minimum wage for more than the obvious reason of minimum base pay....its called minimum wage because those types of jobs require minimum education, minimum skills, minimum drive, and minimum experience. No way should anyone ever believe that these types of jobs are designed to support a family.

I’m not overly excited about this reality but Ben is absolutely correct. When the first wage increase was proposed my local Walmart cut all front of the store staff and went almost exclusively to self check out.

What I like about Ben is for the most part he actually gives people a chance to disagree and at times welcomes it more than support, but remains posed and uses facts to debate his opposition.

I've interned at good summer jobs for essentially "volunteer" wage, but I took it bc I knew it gave me experience and would look good on my resume so that my next real job would make me at least 20-25% higher salary
