It's a nice idea, serious thinkers like you and me have thought off.
the beauty is in switching over from one device to another - from phone to tablet to any other handheld device. Also the reliance on hardware is greatly reduced, as only basic functions with local OS would need to be implemented - like display, sound, gyroscope. The end devices would simply become dumb terminals.

Big software companies would not like this idea, they would loose a lot of control and market cap with useless end user devices.

I use cloud phones for games, the BIGGEST advantage is that it won’t eat my cpu, ram, etc. The only bad thing is that it is pricey (imo).
