I would love to see Marshmello going into trance/melodic dubstep, sorta like above and beyond and seven lions.

If anything I think this would be his last album under this style of happy trap. There is no other way that he can make something unique out of that genre anymore after this imo.

Alot of EDM artists these days seem to just rely on other artists' sound/production in collabs rather than the main artist learning to do it well themselves. It just seems like the smaller artists are getting a easy free pass for publicity by doing something that is uninspired compared to their other songs. This is a similar issue with kayzo's album imo

Loving the frequent videos again :)

Basically what i said in my crap review of this album, the album sounds ok.

I like the collaborations because they hardly sounds like Marshmello xD. I really dislike Marshmello's sound, so hearing him do different things that dont sound like his signature made this album way better for me personally (I hate the solo songs on this album).

Anyway, great review Landon!

TYNAN absolutely crushed their collab, neat sound design

Great review. Something I was quite interested in as I can't say I follow this side of EDM as much: you called Marshmello "happy Trap". I've heard a lot of people say Future Bass is a happy extension of trap. So how far would you say is Marshmello from future bass, to the extent that he is, as you say, happy Trap?

So now that we’ve gotten to this point, are you reviewing Ascend? I genuinely think it might be the best melodic dubstep album of the year for me! So excited to hear your opinions if you’re reviewing it.

I completely agree with this. Alone and Keep It Mello are still his best songs though

Everyone gangsta until Marsh collab with Virtual Riot, I mean seriously, he collabed with Svdden Death, then TYNAN.
We could expect it....

Off topic: What's Your thoughts about the dark -> light music Or the pixel terror bullshit argument that Redhawk put out on uncaged vol 7 a long time ago?

Clarifying my previous comment: I'm glad you enjoyed this album. I just didn't

Ok it grew on me. Definitely his best project IMO. Still hate his own vocals and his solo tracks here are not good. But the collaborations here are the best things he’s ever made, mainly because he is often overpowered by the collaborator

Eventhough I appreciate him collaborating a lot more to add variety, I still dont want to listen to the album. Marshmello is in my opinion the worst producer I've heard. His style is super generic, repetitive, and bland. Might enjoy some tracks on the album but I dont want to waste my time tbh.
