How Kunai were Actually Used #Shorts

●Where you can learn how to throw a Kunai

When you see Kunai being used in anime and manga, they’re usually thrown to attack as weapons.

But do you know how the ninja actually used them?

To make long stories short, Kunai were a kind of “survival knife” for the Japanese spies. So it's actually more of a convenient multi-purpose tool, and less of a throwing weapon or sword we might imagine.

These are some examples of what they were used for…

1. To break locks when invading a building
2. To create a step on a wall to climb over
3. To dig a hole in the ground

Also, the round hole on the edge of the handle was for ropes to go through, so they can use it as a grappling hook too.

Because the ninja needed to make the most effective use of the few tools they had, there was no tool they carried for just one purpose.

Consider this: The kanji for kunai means something like "no worries". Carry kunai and you will have fewer worries, too. Unless you go thru an airport...

The actual uses for it are so much cooler than the ones they're shown to be used for in anime!! I learned something new today~

There are a lot of moments in anime where they could use one of these uses.

I applied for a Japanese exchange student program years ago when I was in high school. Sadly I didn't get the chance to go, but I've always been fascinated with Japanese culture. Your videos are great and I always look forward to them.

This reminds me of a line a weapons merchant said about Kunai in Log Horizon:

“You can use kunai as tools… and for stabbing people.”

I always think of the opening of the newer Mortal Kombat movie when I see the Kunai, like where Hanzo Hasashi (Scorpion) grabbed the kunai and tied a rope around the handle and used it has a weapon.

When I think of a Kunai, I think of Scorpion from Mortal Kombat.
