This week, Belal Hamideh went live to answer your questions about trucking accidents - what kinds are most common, some major causes of truck accidents, how often the occur, and more. Jump to a topic below:

00:00:34 - "What is the #1 cause of truck accidents?"

When we’re talking about trucks, we’re specifically talking about semi trucking, a vehicle that carries cargo. Truck drivers must be properly trained, they have to avoid fatigue, when they drive, they must maintain a regular distance from other motor vehicles, and more. When these trucks hit someone, they can cause more damage in accidents than another kind of vehicle.

Truck drivers get into accidents due to fatigue, they lack training, the driver doesn’t rest properly - there are a lot of truck accidents every year. These vehicle accidents statistics are bad and not getting any better.

00:03:16 - "What are the most common types of truck accidents?"

Rear enders are one of the most common types of truck accidents. Failure to maintain a safe, regular distance between a truck and the car in front of them, rear enders, are the most common. Even if these truck drivers are slowing down, these commercial motor vehicles can hit at 40 to 50 miles an hour, 20 times harder than a car. Rollovers are the second most common type.

00:04:54 - "How often do truck drivers get into accidents?"

You are much more likely to suffer serious injuries when involved in a truck accident than a regular vehicle accident. According to statistics, the US reported 500,000 truck accidents. Of the 3,000 truck accidents reported in California, 100-200 of those accidents recorded fatalities.

00:05:55 - "Are truck drivers always at fault in a truck accident?"

Truck drivers must be properly trained, they have to avoid fatigue, when they drive, they must maintain a regular distance from other motor vehicles, and more. When these trucks hit someone, they can cause more damage in accidents than another kind of vehicle. A majority of the time, truck drivers are at fault for accidents. By a “reasonable person’s standard,” we can ask if the driver of a truck did so reasonably. They’re far more likely to be at fault than the regular driver of a vehicle.

This week I had a scary late night run-in with a semi truck - the advice from this Q&A helped me anticipate the other driver's moves and avoid what could have been a pretty serious accident. Thank you Belal for continuing to share information with the community!
