Inside the antique cane shop of Paris

At 18 rue de Beaune in the 7th arrondissement, there’s a small shop that sells walking sticks.

It would be very easy to walk past without noticing, but inside is a treasure trove of curiosities, a deep dive into French history, and a jaw-dropping selection of walking sticks from centuries gone by.

The Galerie Jantzen has hundreds of both types of walking sticks and the shop owner, Chloe Jantzen, joined us on The Earful Tower podcast to talk about her shop, its history, and her magnificent collection of 1,200 walking sticks.

I do not own a cane, I never wanted a cane, but would love to buy one at that store, wow, those are really cool.

Loved this week's podcast episode and this bonus video with voiceover! I'm thinking it's a good thing I didn't live in the time when it was fashionable to carry a walking stick as a way to complete an outfit. I never would have stopped buying them -- there are so many cool ones!

Bonjour! The voiceovers work, but I appreciate most when you’re interacting with guests in real time.

So interesting and some very beautiful things there. I did wonder about the ivory - are they allowed to sell it?! Impressive VO too!

I collect and use canes and walking sticks (over 100, at present) and I know the first place I'm going if I ever go to France! I probably wouldn't leave the store.

What can you tell me about the L. Chobert cane comp? I found one at an estate sale here in New Orleans. They say it’s a self defence cane. What is the company histoury? Thanks.

Really nice, is it a "museum" or do they sell cane's?
