"He Moves, I Move First" is a wing chun idiom that is well understood to point the way toward blended and hybrid techniques. When the attacker changes and tries to get positional advantage, it's necessary to stay ahead of that change and cut it off. In order to do this, a higher degree of sensitivity and subtle changes in technique are required. These microreadings and microadjustments are the focus of this video. It’s valuable to be able to change from one technique to another while staying in structured and protected positions as we adapt from one technique to another in real time. It's the same way you will not necessarily be able to see a snowboarder’s "heel-edge" and "toe-edge", or how you won’t be able to see a race car's "right turn" or "left turn" because they are switched between too quickly in real time. These changes occur as microadjustments as the snowboarder or driver attempts to stay upright or out maneuver other drivers.
All high level martial arts rely on this type of sensitivity and change as they blend techniques during subtle changes to stay in an advantageous position. In this video we talk about how to do this in wing chun.
Topic Covered Include:
- Blending Of Two Techniques
- Changing Techniques Midway
- Hybrid Techniques, A Combination Of Two Techniques
- Techniques That Feel Like Another Technique
The drills and knowledge in this workshop will also:
- Improve Our Awareness
- Improve Our Sensitivity
- Improve Real-Time Reaction
- Teach Us To Stay Ahead Of Our Attacker
