I have 4 iPad minis. 2, 4, 5, 6. Hand me downs galore. Comes down to size and how you use it. I’m a grabber and rest it on my stomach. The glare of the larger screen of the air and the weight of holding it for long hours would be too much for me. Mini is perfect. If you rest your iPad next to you or on the table while using, air is a no brainer. Might want to wait for the m3 or m4 version though.

Many reviewers of the new 2024 iPad Mini (7th generation) seem to be missing the point—by a country mile. The real focus here is price point.

From Apple’s perspective, the iPad Mini needed an update, but it wasn’t about creating another high-end, desirable luxury gadget. Instead, it’s more in line with what the iPad used to represent before Apple’s focus shifted to large, powerful tablets with limited portability.

The iPad Mini has never been a massive seller, but it has a loyal niche market that appreciates its unique size and functionality. And with this new model, Apple’s hit the right price.

With this budget-friendly focus, Apple didn’t set out to pack the Mini with high-end specs. So, out go ultra-smooth screens, bigger batteries, and high-performance CPUs and GPUs. Instead, Apple made use of A17 Pro chips—those with one failed core from iPhone 15 production runs. The result? Perfectly usable chips that don’t drive up costs.

More RAM and storage upgrades were manageable without bumping up the price. And the design? It’s built with one-handed use in mind, so slimming down the bezels wouldn’t be practical.

The addition of the new Apple Pencil support and promises of more Apple intelligence down the line will appeal to users, even if some features aren’t available at launch. Plus, the Mini’s improved internals mean it can handle more “grown-up” apps—a nice perk for fans who need serious functionality in a portable form.

This should set out the practical approach Apple took with the iPad Mini, making it a solid, cost-effective choice for those who value portability over luxury.

I have the 6th, the m2, along with my iPhone 12 mini. All together they are the ultimate replacement for folding phones and desktop computers. I reach for the mini more than any of them and it’s been a blast. I don’t think you need to upgrade to the 7 if you already have the 6. I use affinity designer suite on the m2 and it rocks doing my vector graphics. The large 13 size has been amazing. I live off grid so the long battery life is crucial for me. My three year old dell hasn’t seen much use with that i7 sucking up power. I also have one of those carrier bags I put my iPad and phone in and I’m set traveling. Since I started with android I bought the a9 and had the a7 lite. Both are great and slimmer than the iPad mini. They have been great getting into Gmail and having my custom nova set up. The a9 is a major upgrade to the a7 lite for sure. I hope that helps some people making a decision, if android had a great illustrator app I would probably go with xioami or one plus. I had the xioami note 8 pro and just loved it but they don’t support the phone long enough. Well good luck everyone.

My choice is the Samsung Tab S9. Much more useful. But the Mini 7 has no competition in the small tablet space. Having both the Tab S9 and the Mini 7, it still amazes me how limited the iPad is.

If I wasn’t old. Ow I’d think about the new mini! I get buy on the standard iPad 10th generation but really wish it was a bigger screen

60Hz, okay... Maybe if it was 300 euros

How can you compare those two ipads, completely different sizes aimed at very different users. How many people can carry a monster tablet like the air around with them. The mini is portable, fits in a pocket and you can use it anywhere, plane, train, automobile and the air is for those who carry a back pack or similar.
If you want to do a comparison at least compare same size tablets.
