It really says a lot about our society and the state of the church that most people would feel more comfortable coming to their pastor with doubts about the divinity of Christ or other key doctrinal issues than to come to their pastor with politically incorrect opinions on race or WWII

There is a lot I share with my pastor/pastors.
But there are some things I just can’t. Really wish I could.

In hindsight, playing along with Tobias's struggle session exposed this church member to unnecessary trouble. God used it for good to expose a lot of things, but I think in retrospect it's safe to say that a Zoom call like this should never have happened. Joel's effort to accommodate another cleric endangered his own sheep, so I hope Joel takes Woe's advice and stop playing nice with encircling wolves who want to snipe at his sheep. Good pastors need to learn the art of the cold shoulder against potentially bad ones—even if they used to be good.

This is my exact situation right now. I don't trust my elders. Not with doctrinal issues or personal issues. Even with decisions they have made with other situations in the congregation. They are aware. I also haven't found anywhere else to go. I'm stuck.

I hadn't heard of Stone Choir until James White and friends began to spout about it. And now Youtube is feeding me "Stone Choir" as a search term, because I have been watching videos about the Antioch Declaration.

Even Joel while doing the right thing exposed his congregant to harm by being too trusting of his group chat who leaked the identifying info. Even good clergy who trust too easily can expose you to wolves.

I left my old church because I knew one of the elders had it out for me and I no longer trusted the judgement of the elderboard. I spent quite a bit of time walking on eggshells. Now I'm at a church where I'm not walking on eggshells. Life is better.

Powerful point. Joel and other loyal pastors must be protected from the mob. Very bad things will happen if they are cancelled.

Unfortunately, I have a pastor who talks in sermons about "conspiracy theories", being "too political", and has mentioned Christian Nationalism negatively.

Conservative, Christian guy but is desperate to hang on to a neutral world that doesn't exist. I keep thinking I need to find time to just talk with him one on one to get him thinking about what he actually knows about these topics when he's weighing in.

However, I'm sort of just riding it out because most of the theology is good and my family has a lot of connections in the congregation.

Reminds me of what I heard from Richard Barris, a pollster. At one point in one of his streams, he discussed a population segment of people who left church not because they don't believe but because the institution had betrayed or dismissed them.

Adam's tweet at the episode intro is well said. It's not like evangelical church leadership (broadly) hasn't brought this on itself. I don't look at my elders that way, because they've proven to be godly and honorable men in the years I've known them.

I started listening to SC in the last few weeks just to see if what folks said about them is true. I've found a lot of spicy hot takes and I don't agree with them on everything (they're Lutheran and I'm Baptist), but so far the only egregious thing I've heard is saying things that upset the (ie. Postwar Consensus).

That said, I've listened to maybe a dozen episodes. Have listened to their series about the Js (including The Big Lie), but not their stuff about race generally yet. Their episode about Eastern Orthodoxy is good.

I've actually found them to come across as very pastoral and reasonable on the podcast. That said, I'm not on Twitter, so I don't see or know their antics there.

All that to say, they don't deserve as bad a rap as they get, but I understand why they do.

I'm an elder at my church (reformed Baptist) and would have no problem with anyone bringing up these topics...and i think most of my fellow elders wouldn't either, but few if any are versed in the current topics already. It would be coming out nowhere for them. They're 'normies'. If you're having concerns, questions about the topics, you should try them and see what you've got.

This reminded me to be grateful for the amazing elders that are over me. Thank you, A.D.

For most things, I trust my elders. For confronting the battles of the present day, not so much. Not full egalitarian, by any means, but their having women be part of administering communion indicated to me that hoping they might the tough battles would be in vain.

AD I listened to his recounting of what happened to him in the LCMS. And cliffs notes, when their podcast was becoming controversial, he went to one of his most trusted elders, one whom he saw as friend, to let him know he was involved. That elder then doxxed him to the LCMS leadership. That’s probably why.

I find more love today at a bjj class than I have found in any church.

I recently found out that several of the elders at the PCA church we attend are Democrats.

Woe also uses the word cleric to describe the snake pastors. Ones that can’t be trusted is already built in to his use of the word

We must continue to talk about this all day, everyday, as if it were the Gospel itself. This is the most important thing we can do with our time. Everyday I am excited to see all my channels with yet another take on this issue amd adjacent arguments. Lets go boys, 2025 is a new year for us to redouble our efforts at making this happen!
