There’s something so tragic about Cassini. It completed its mission, and it gave us more than we ever hoped it would. Still, it was destined to burn up and be scattered on a lifeless, unfamiliar, distant planet, millions of miles from the ones who made it. Never to triumphantly return home, never to rest.

This picture has been the background of my desktop for 10 years. It's my favorite space picture. There's something so humbling yet awe-inspiring about it, all at once.

I love how it also represents how much can be stored in seemingly unimportant spaces - the main focus of the picure is seemingly the beautiful and overwhelming dark side of saturn, but in actuallity it is the small pale dot next to saturn that shows us the most.
