7 KEY TIPS to Making a Successful SMP (Minecraft)

From this elaborate presentation of advice and guidance from my own SMP experience, from the experiences of some other successful SMPs, such as the Dream SMP, and with the use of logic and data, I hope you will find the key to your own successful Minecraft SMP!

PLEASE READ:
Let me be clear about my usage of the word "successful." By successful, I mean an SMP which has a flourishing and undying community, and which is functional and expanding in every way. This is not a presentation on how to make a famous, popular SMP such as the Dream SMP or Shady Oaks SMP. This is merely a guide to show how YOU can create a fun and enjoyable environment for your own friends with a Minecraft SMP, completely regardless of fame or fortune.

The tips and suggestions in this video (such as the automatic farms tip) are partially compiled from streamers' and YouTubers' advice on beginning an SMP, but are mainly from my own experience of owning an SMP.

I currently run my own SMP and I would like to say, a lot of your points I agree with but I do not think auto farms ruin the game, they just encourage others to build bigger and better bases and allow the opportunity to do other fun things Instead of just resource grinding all the time, though your point is still valid

2:09 A tip for those wanting to upgrade to a new update.

Use a map editor to delete loaded chunks with no builds, warn players to give you their coords of hidden base so you don't accidently delete a chunk with underground stuff.

Can vouch that the automatic farm one is good, I’ve hosted an smp for my friends for 2 and a half years and we’ve reset it 3 times due to getting bored after making every single farm

I think the biggest problem is not ppl NOT using admin powers but ppl using admin powers Keep it light and have an "admin mode" where you use powers take off all your stuff and only do "admin things"

Most of the smps that I've been in died quick since everyone grinded for op gear fast. Hopefully with these tips I can try and revive my smp

I feel like having an smp is to have fun playing with friends and make builds, and less of the survival aspect. (you can just play singleplayer for survival) so building farms is just to make you not have to do mundane tasks of grinding materials for builds and actually spend more time building and having fun with your friends.

I disagree with the farms point because i actually have a lot of fun building farms with a friend so i can actually afford building things

1:33 I strongly disagree, though it depends on what sort of SMP you're going for. Me and my friend build as many farms as we can, because we like creating new things in the world and building stuff, from a survival perspective. The difference between this and being in creative is that we still have health, we still have to fly places, and we still have to collect resources and such. It's very fun. We can just create bigger things.

The only thing I disagree with is the autofarms - as a builder and a content creator, they are so necessary for the really massive projects. Not everyone plays the way I do, but I think autofarms allow you to open up the game to new possibilities, if you have the imagination to follow it through.

When joining an smp server, I'd expect a relaxing and chill gameplay without myself doing all the hard work, or worrying about the operator taking action against myself or a friend. I think I've had more servers with some kid for an owner going on a power trip than an owner not taking enough actions. I disagree with the 3rd and 5th tip.
