I often get sucked into the home improvement isles when I shop Home Depot or Lowe's, here in Texas. If I were to win the lottery, those stores would be on my top 10 list of places to buy from.

What I do find really funny is that the shops that I have gone into (not electrical wholesalers) that sell electrical merchandise always and I mean always have a sign somewhere that says and I quote "Must be installed by a Licensed electrician"

in the states, big electrical companies troll sales from big box stores and buy Romex (T&E) by the pallet if the price is lower than the supply house.

There are so many flexi conduits because italians use them to wire up everything. They use Flexi wires, unlike us in the uk. Different colours help you remember what a circuit is for. Sometimes, i miss it.

There is a certain code for the conduits colours... like black is used for high voltage (230v appliances and such) and green for example is used for low voltage stuff such as intercom, video or audio signals for your hi-fi. The best Junction boxes or outdoor IP55 rated plugs are made by Gewiss/ BTicino. As for breakers BTicino are the best but also the most expensive, but Schneider, Siemens, ABB, AEG or Chint are also really great quality... I know Chint is the cheapest one but still very great quality! For rigid plastic conduits (those white pipes) there are IP rated curves or box/conduit junctions and there are those that are not insulated but I never used them

I always walk through the electrical isle and the tool section. I’m retired and don’t need any of it, but I still love to look.

In the Netherlands we put everything in conduit, but we only have yellow for inside and a stronger version in grey for outside. Never realized we should have more colors available?

But if I don't keep tabs on who caries what in the box stores, how do I know where to go when I'm short 1 piece to finish the job? Or 30 min before you finished the job the customers suddenly remembers something else that needs to be replaced because company is coming that weekend? 5 min drive to the box store or 45 min to the supply house?

Last time I bought from home improvement store is because holesale is closed Saturday and I wanted to finish the project. Was also the exact same product during this instance.

The US hates running electrical through flexy conduit for some unfathomable reason. No HDPE, no corrugate, only steel or gray PVC.

It gets even weirder in Australia where to do the sort of work where all this stuff could be used, you must be a licenced electrician.

Bunnings sells a range of electrical under the DETA brand including RCBOs. No self respecting electrician would buy a DETA RCBO. Not just for the stigma, you can get trusted names from the wholesaler for less than Bunnings' DETA trades pricing. Yet they still have the things on offer, clearly for the DIYer. It's just weird.
