Inateck USB 3.0 to SATA Adapter Review

The adapter comes with a 4’ SATA to USB 3.0 cable, and a 4’ power adapter. The adapter measures 2.75” across and has a Micro-B USB port and power port on one side and the SATA power/data connection on the other for the hard drive. I plugged this into my 1TB internal SATA hard drive and connected the cable to my USB 3.0 hub (PCI-E card). The drive showed up right away and I was able to read/write to it like any other external drive. The transfer speeds are about 80 Mb/s for both writing and reading. Since I didn’t want my internal drive exposed, I modified a hard drive enclosure by cutting out a rectangle out of the face panel using a heat knife to fit in the SATA adapter, and now it’s a USB 3.0 enclosure. When the adapter has power, the LED on the adapter will illuminate blue, even if your computer is off. The LED cannot be turned off, so if you sleep in the room with your computer and the light bothers you, you'll have to unplug the adapter.
