I have seen a documentary where they move their (almost free roaming) chickens at a spot... then later plant on that area.... chickens get move to another section of the land. same as what you are saying... cool info! So true with safety too! Keep up with great work and usable info! Thank you

If you're planting annuals, like corn, wheat, etc, then to be self sufficient you need to have twice as many acres of perennials, or 3 or more times of forest, as well as animals, to replace lost fertility through compost and soill amendments. You harvest the perennials or trees for both carbon and food, and the animals provide the nitrogen.

Crop rotation does not replace 100% of the lost carbon and nitrogen...it just stretches out the existing fertility of your soil. You need a perennial input of carbon, and animal manure and urine for nitrogen to really get it done.

What will you feed your animals after SHTF. I find it even more difficult to stockpile livestock feed than human food. Mold is an issue here in Ohio, maybe not there in the desert.
Just so you know, when we actually started living off our garden and livestock we found that we needed at least three times our hobby garden, even though we were still buying a few groceries. Also don't forget that your chickens need some greens to stay in ultimate health. Stockpile a bunch of fence and posts for both your animals and defense. Good luck brother.

Wildlife incursions ha! Top cover fencing seems the most hard to do.Dogs surely must be the all around best defense ( chiauauas excluded.)
