Показать описание
Egea Zagreb is presenting its Geography Awareness Week!!
We can all call ourselves a geographers and during GAW main aim of Geography would be promotion of itself. As we are connected all over the Europe, we must be aware that not in every country is Geography applied as in others. Having that in mind GAW is perfect way to inform wide public about our work :)
Egea Zagreb had a lot to offer during this week:
1) International Multidisciplinary Congress - Urban Utopia
From 10.-12. of November Egea Zagreb organised 2nd International Multidisciplinary Congress – Urban Utopia. Our congress was also recognised from high education facilities. Congress was divided into 5 thematical sections – Geoecological challenges, Functional city transport, Modern urban tourism, Revitalization through repurposing and Smart cities. Main aim of the congress was to unite all kinds of spatial sciences and to make public realize geography is between all of them, which means collaboration of all of them is crutial in making urban space as functional as possible. Almost 150 people, including presenters, scientific boards, organisers and other pasive participants were a part of the congress.
Coffe&carrier – a place for everyone to meet ex-geographers who are presnting their current jobs and perspectives of them.
We had an excursion to outskirts of Zagreb, where members of some organisations toured us through places that can and need to be repurposed and introduced to us their plan of doing so.
2) Presenting of "Club of Geography Students Zagreb" on Interliber - Book Fair
This year EGEA Zagreb has participated on the biggest book fair in Croatia – Interliber. It is held every year in the middle of November in Zagreb and it lasted for six days. Interliber is highly attented event. Most of the primary and secondary schools from all over the Croatia visit this book fair.
Workshops were:
• Plan your own city – we made a model of town, but only with natural basis and figures for social elements (houses, cottages, beach, industry, landfill and sea port). Firstly we explained to children some basics of spatial planning and then we would ask them to put figures in the town according to natural basis and other social elements.
• GIS in the function of tourism – we had a presentation in which we explained what is GIS and how GIS can help you to choose the best location for building touristic apartment.
• Geomorpholgical memory – we hade pictures with geomorphological forms and their names. Students had to put it all together and then we would explain them where you can find those kind of forms and what kind of economic activities you can develop in those kind of areas.
• Extrems in the world – it was intended for younger students. We would ask them which town has the biggest population or where is the highest waterfall.
• Orientation – we had few compasses and topographic maps and we were teaching students how to orientate with compass, how to calculate azymuth on topographic map with compass and so on.
3) Geoquiz Vol. 11
Every month we organize one Geoquiz. This month we organized it in the geography awareness week in the pub where we always organize it. Fifteen teams participated on the Geoquiz and each team had 3 or 4 members. All questions were related to geography and all participants were geographers. For the three first places we prepared prizes as always and of course we had a lot of fun.
4) GisDay on Zagreb Geography Department
Geography department in Zagreb has organized GIS day. Two GIS companies (HERE and GIScloud) came on our Faculty and held very interesting workshops. Also our two proffesors Luka Valožić and Ivan Šulc held 4 workshops with GIS for the students.
Some of the worskops included work in QGIS, ArcGIS and clouds such as HERE online maps and GISCloud.
