Squatting is awesome!

Squatting is a fundamental human movement pattern - we co-evolved with it.

Over and above the fact that if you evolved doing it, you probably need it, here are a few specific benefits you can get from squats!

Squatting:
🍑puts your knees and hips into full range flexion (joints love getting to go into their full ranges)
🍑gets muscles - esp glutes & hamstrings - working as you travel up & down (think daily body weight workout here),
🍑encourages ankle, knee, hip & thoracic mobility
🍑helps keep your pelvic floor long & strong, and
🍑it takes more energy than sitting so it helps keep your metabolism high & your inflammation levels low.

A couple of my Take10 students have asked about how to get more squats in their real life every day sooooooo here are some ways!

1️⃣ Squat while you enjoy your morning coffee!
2️⃣ Squat - don’t bend - when you pick stuff up from the floor
3️⃣ Squat when you clean the floor
4️⃣ Squat when you check your Instagram!
5️⃣ Squat when you fold your laundry
6️⃣ Squat to pick up heavy stuff (Try keeping stuff on the floor on purpose so this happens more!)
7️⃣ Squat when you wash up (this is a bolstered variation so it’s perfect if you don’t have a full squat yet)
8️⃣ Squat while you work from home
9️⃣ Squat to enjoy the view next time you’re hiking or beach walking
🔟 Squat to say hi to an adorable friend

Remember - bolster as needed, especially if your heels don’t want to hit the ground.

I try to do this when I can (mostly when I have the energy to do so because it isn’t something my body finds natural) but it’s hard. You make it look so easy and natural. Love your videos. They are an inspiration and something to strive towards.

I'm going to try some of your suggestions. I just wonder if that position is a little hard on the knees though...?
