Flow Past a Rotating Sphere CFD Simulation

This simulation was performed as part of the validation procedures for a newly developed moving overlapping mesh method in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The Reynolds number of the flow is 300 and the non-dimensional angular velocity of the rotating sphere is 0.05. The lambda 2 = -8x10^-4 contour is shown with velocity magnitude projected on its surface. The interior mesh (shown in the video) rotates and interpolates values to an exterior mesh (not shown). The method was developed using Nek5000, a Spectral Element Method flow solver written in Fortran.
