I’m 31 so I’m old enough to know that Shrek was actually a parody of fairytales. This was purposely done, and heavily advertised when the movie came out. So it wasn’t “heavily inspired”, this was actually the point of the movie. I grew up laughing at all of these references because I knew they were supposed to be in the movie 😊 But it’s something that most kids today don’t know, because you were too young to remember that Shrek was a parody movie, and was always meant to be one. I understood all of these references growing up because I had seen all of those other movies and knew that Shrek was a parody movie of fairytales, love stories, and pop culture that was modern at the time
