Thoughts about FINAL EVER Oakland A's vs. Giants game (8/18/24)

Sunday will be the last-ever game in the Bay Bridge Series. And for the San Francisco Giants’ manager who spent 11 seasons managing the Oakland Athletics, the last days of a Bay Area rivalry mark the final times Melvin will enter the Coliseum’s old hallways for a day of work.

Melvin was happy to have a rare Friday day off to prepare himself for the emotions.
“That last day will be pretty hard,” Melvin said.

In case you haven’t heard, the A’s will play at Sutter Health Park outside Sacramento next season en route to Las Vegas, their eventual destination by sometime at the end of the decade. Or, at least, that’s the organization’s stated plan.

Matt Chapman, a former Oakland and current San Francisco third baseman, relates to the anger. He has been outspoken about his frustrations when ownership didn’t spend to strengthen the 2018, 2019 and 2020 A’s playoff teams on which he and Canha played, only to watch ownership let leader Marcus Semien walk. His experience playing for the Toronto Blue Jays and Giants gave Chapman perspective on how cheaply Fisher operated in comparison, he said.

“It was frustrating,” Chapman said. “You feel bad for the players, coaches and the fans. Everybody. The fans paid money to come see us, the guys that work hard. That team was dedicated to winning and we didn’t feel like the owner cared.

“I feel really bad for (the fans). They have a great fan base and people that care and they’ve had their hearts ripped out a million times. It’s hard.”

Chapman will miss the Bay Bridge series and the Coliseum for what they were. As for the A's move to Vegas? He isn't convinced.

“Who knows what’s going to happen," Chapman said. "They’ve been trying to do that for so long, but I don’t know what the issue is. It’s one of those things you don’t hold your breath on because you don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Brodie have heard about Osh? Osh is the Oakland Zoo's only African elephant. They were hoping they could find another male elephant to keep him company, but they couldn't find one. So this fall, Osh will be moving to an elephant sanctuary in Tennessee.

I find it synchronistic and symbolic at the same time the Oakland Athletics with their mascot Stomper are skipping out of town, the Oakland Zoo's only elephant will also be leaving town. Although, Osh's pasture in Tennessee may be a little greener than Stomper and the Athletic's pasture in Las Vegas.🐘

I grew up in norcal, humboldt county norcal. My dad is a giants fan so of course I became one too. The only baseball I watched on tv through the 90s as a kid was giants games, As games and cubs games since we got WGN. I always remembered liking how sunny and bright the coliseum was.

My first Baseball game was in Oakland. First concert was at the Arena. Always a Giants fan, but I always root for the A's when they arent playing SF. I have fond memories watching Smoke, the Bash Brothers, Lansford at the hot corner, Rickey and Dave in the outfield. From this Giants, and Sharks fan for that matter, I'll miss these games. Thanks for doing what you do Brodie, and Dave, and Dallas.

Born and raised in Michigan I'm the mid 80s, a Tigers fan at that, so don't truly understand how deep this must hurt, but do know that 89 world series is one if not my first "non" personal memory, remember watching that live of TV and how wild that whole thing was. Know plenty of organizations have moved from cities, but this just feels different

So, I'm a Mariners fan. I remember when the A's were our nemesis.
But I'm also a Seahawks fan, and I know what a shit owner can do to a city and a region. And don't get me started about the Association and the Sonics.
It's a shame and a Goddamned shame this happened to such a hard-luck town as Oakland and such a deserving region as the Bay. My sincere regrets and condolences to Oakland and the A's faithful.

As a St. Louisan, who has lost 2 NFL teams, I feel your pain.

Hello, Cubs fan here. After following the A's relocation story from its inception a couple of years ago, I believe that it's in the best interest of that organization, and baseball itself, that the franchise remain in the East Bay. Contrary to the beliefs of team ownership, there is a loyal, potentially large, fanbase there that has a distinct identity. I also think that players and fans are very close to one another in Oakland, and rather than severing that connection, it should be nourished. In short, I believe that John Fisher is making a big mistake doing this.

Always enjoy your videos, although I am a Red Sox fan (MA born and raised) I spent a significant part of my adult life in Northern California. I have been to many A's games, and I can confidently say Oakland A's fans are some of the best in baseball. I still pray somehow, some way this team won't leave California.

As I watch this, I am just blown away at what a total tragedy and travesty it is that this team is moving away. Disgusting greed.

I know I already posted, but I kind of like Dave Stewart as a commentator. He is capable of being articulate, intelligent, passionate, and emotional all at the same time. I hope he continues in baseball broadcasting; he has some talent.

As someone who's got no dog in the fight, I hate seeing rivalries end because of money. We need to protect everything we have in case Money takes it away
