A half volley is struck IMMEDIATELY on the rise just after it bounces. Same definition in multiple sports. Just think about it, using tennis as an example, if the player hits the ball after it bounces it is called a normal shot. If you hit the ball immediately after it bounces and just starts rising it is called a HALF VOLLEY! Same in football and every other sport

By definition a half volley is when the ball is hit immediately after it bounces. It is also known as a “on the rise shot” or “short hop”. One google search would have helped you there Simon 👍
