🇹🇭 Thailand Forest Safety: TIGERS, BEARS, Leopards, Snakes, Scorpions!

Guess which one I'm REALLY afraid of in Thailand's Forest? Thailand forest is generally pretty safe if you don't have the large animals to worry about like Tigers, Bears, Elephants, Leopards, and other wild cats. Most forests in Thailand do not have tigers, elephants, and big leopards or other wild cats. Most have bears, but I have never heard of a bear attacking someone in Thailand. Not yet, anyway.

Snakes are a problem. One snake really - the Malayan Pit Viper. They are common and very dangerous snakes in the rainforest, pretty much all over the country. They have a horribly necrotic venom.

Elephants in the forest can be a problem - you should always know which animals are in the forest you're walking around in, or camping in. Camping in Thailand can be dangerous when you don't know what the dangers are. I don't go in forest with elephants, they are mainly in Bangkok area parks (east and west of Bangkok) and north.

Tigers are somewhat common on the Burma (Myanmar) border. Rubber tappers get taken by a tiger about once a year or so. That's how many times we hear about it. Maybe it happens more often.

Scorpions hurt, but there are no real deadly scorpions in the country.

Spiders hurt, but the real dangerous spiders - the brown recluse or the black widow - are not common, if they are even here at all. I've never seen either in the forest.

Bees are a problem. Don't mess with them. Don't swing at them. Certainly don't kill one. They leave a scent in the air that calls hundreds of other bees to come and sting you. You can die, some people die each year from bees. Probably one of the worst ways to die, I'd think.

People in the forest are not usually a problem. I never had a problem with anyone in the rainforest in Krabi, Phuket, Ubon, Sisaket, Surat, Trang, or anywhere else. There are hunters and rubber tappers in the forest at night. Sometimes guys who trap birds in nets check their nets at night.

Is Thailand's Forest Dangerous?

Yes, and no. With caution, you will be fine. There are very few deaths from any wild animals each year in Thailand. If you're cautious - you'll be fine.

I've come close to tiger, but was never afraid of them. I've also had a couple of close calls with elephants, and for sure, I am afraid of them more than any other wild animal. But the most dangerous creature out there has to be other humans. If I hear other people in the Thai forest, they are either going to be rangers or hunters. If it's the latter, then it could be very dangerous. Quite a few rangers have been killed here by poachers over the years, and I sure as hell don't want to run into any.

Gaur and Elephants usually are my main worries. Cats are not coming near you and people pretty much never get attacked.

Good info Vern... My local patch is Kaeng Krachan.. There is a resident Malayan Sunbear, which is fed everyday by rangers.. Not a good idea IMO. Plenty of elephants, leopards and even tigers.. Guar are the ones to watch out for....

My grandpa lived in thailand and once when he was walking into his home and was gonna go to bed he saw a snake in his bed it was a cobra. My grandpa dont have much fear of anything bc he was used to these kind of stuff he lived in thailand for many years. So he took a showel and chopped of his head. I also went for a trip to him for like a month i was not that old at this time so next to the beach it was these jelly fishes. I did not know they were dangerouse so i started to touch it and feel on it but then my mom screamed on me and i was really lucky i did not touch the tentacles.

0:15 "back in AUSTRALIA? When it comes to dangerous critters, I think (or guess) Australia is about as dangerous or worse.

Nice video. Are there any schools/guides that teach jungle/forest survival in Thailand. My wife and I are moving to Isaan, Thailand in less than a year and with my interests in hiking/backpacking and all the critters that I will most likely seek out and run into, I'd best seek some knowledge. Any ideas?

haha, i was watching this because i was interested in what dangerous spiders thailand has just because i love spiders. well what i find funny is that the brow recluse and black widow are both species where i live so if i went to thailand there would be no new dangerous spiders
