Garmin G5000 Jet Avionics Upgrade Tour

There are plenty of aging legacy jets with maintenance-intensive avionics nearly ready for fresh avionics, and Garmin is on it. Two-plus years in the making, it recently completed the expensive STC for the G5000 integrated avionics and autopilot for Cessna Citation Excel/XLS business jets—a favorite among a wide variety of operators. The system has been previously STC'd for the Beechjet 400 series jets and is selling well. Garmin also has the G3000 cockpit, which has become the automation standard in the Cirrus Vision jet, the HondaJet, smaller Citations and others, plus turboprop singles including the Piper M600 and Daher TBM940. In this video Aviation Consumer Editor Larry Anglisano looked deep into an XLS G5000 retrofit, and the buying decision, with Garmin's Dave Brown.

Need to add more screens in the shape of triangles on the sides.

I am so old that I remember a time when a hot section engine overhaul actually cost more than the avionics suite. Garmin has found a way to reverse those numbers.

No doubt about it. Garmin is the leader in glass. So, why s their GPS devices for cars so lousy? We have become used to poor electronics in vehicles and just accept them.

Great sales pitch, but where's the balanced viewpoint? It's shiny I get it.
How much, how often (change), what cost/benefit, wheres the cost saving, what can I do new, why should I (and not 'cos it's shiny!)?
