Malaysian officials to visit India
Recently the push for the export of LCA Tejas has gained huge momentum. Multuple reports have highlighted that the LCA Tejas has emerged has front runner for the requirement of 18 FLIT-LCA for Royal Malaysian Air Force which might extend to order of additional 2 squadrons in future. As per HAL’s Chairman, Malaysia has narrowed down on the Indian aircraft notwithstanding the stiff competition from China’s JF-17 jet, South Korea’s FA-50 and Russia’s Mig-35 as well as Yak-130. As part of the package, India has offered to set up an MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) facility in Malaysia for its Russian-origin Su-30 fighter fleet as it is facing difficulties in procuring spares for the aircraft from Russia in view of western sanctions against Moscow. China has also aggressively fielded its JF-17 fighter which is much cheaper than Tejas MK1A but could not match the technical parameters. Clearly, this deal has proven on point that Tejas MK1A is much advance fighter when compared with Chinese JF-17. The dual package offer by India is live saver of RMAF. No other country except India & Russia can offer the complete MRO of SU-30 fighter jet. This deal seems to be almost through and could be 1st export order of Tejas MK1A. HAL Chairman has told the financial express that a team of high-ranking officials and experts is expected to visit India soon to take forward the procurement process.
Brahmos+LCA Tejas MK1A+ALH MKIII+LCH for Egypt
The second foreign country to be the customer of Tejas MK1A is going to be Egypt. India is aggressively pushing the deal here as well via triple offer. The cooperation between the two countries has seen new rise in recent years. Recently, a 57-member Indian Air Force delegation was in Egypt to take part in a tactical leadership programme at the Air Force school in Cairo which included three Su30 MKI and two C17 aircraft. The Egyptian Air Force has a requirement of close to 70 light combat jets, with a focus on local production and technology transfer. A series of high-level engagement has already been taken between the two countries and Egyptian Air Force chief is expected to visit in few days during which India to showcase its manufacturing and MRO capability. India has offered to setup production facilities in Egypt for the manufacturing of LCA as well as helicopters which includes ALH MKIII Dhruv and LCH. This will also help HAL to expand its export opportunities in the Middle East and North Africa region. Apart from this India has also offered BrahMos missile to Egypt. Addition of BrahMos has further made this deal sweeter for Egypt. BrahMos Aerospace has also actively participated in the Defence Expo of Egypt called EDEX 2021 last year. During the defense expo, India showcased the land, water and air versions of BrahMos. The head of the Armament Authority of Egyptian Armed forces also met the CEO of BrahMos Aerospace during the event. As per the middle east media reports the negotiations for the purchase of BrahMos is proceeding smoothly between the two countries and its matter of time before the deal will be inked.
Export of 78 LCA Tejas MK1-A
In summary, we can say HAL is looking forward for inking 18 FLIT-LCA deal with Malaysia and 70 LCA Tejas MK1A with Egypt. HAL is also ready to upgrade in further to Tejas MK2 and AMCA for its potential customers. Apart from the fighter jet, Egypt and other African nation will also be potential customer for HAL’s ALH Dhruv MKIII and LCH. Egypt can also be the 2nd foreign customer of BrahMos missile apart from Philippines. The senior officials from Egypt and Malaysia are soon to visit India to further move forward with the deal.
