I know we’re constantly told everything old is evil and racist and just Not OK…..but my Grandfather fought with Patton, was kind hearted, and taught me to only judge people by their actions. And Bill Monroe said he liked the Beatles. Just saying we need to stop what’s being told/ taught about our history cause the majority were Good People and this music is Awesome.

No, this was not shot at the Ryman, but on a soundstage and is lip-sync'd.  It was recorded previously with all these players EXCEPT Benny Williams (fiddle).  Buddy Spicher was the original fiddler and Benny didn't know what Spicher was playing so his "syncing" is, in fact, way outta sync! - very noticeable in the beginning when the camera focuses on Benny & his fiddle.  This cut was from the 1965 movie "Second Fiddle to a Steel Guitar".  Terrible movie, but great artists/musical performances.  In this one, besides Bill Monroe & Benny Williams;  Jimmy Elrod, gtr; Don Lineberger (left handed!) banjo & James Monroe, bass.  Also notice "Gibson" gouged out of the peghead of Bill's mando.  Some of Bill's work after Gibson "refurbished" his mando and he was peeved about it.

the divot in Bill's peghead was made by him when he sent it to Gibson to have it refretted but when it came to back to him the job was not done so Bill cut out the name Gibson and broke off the curly que from the peghead.

The rumour go's that when a 19 Yr old Elvis covered this song on the Louisiana hayride Bill came to see.
Elvis was so nervous they had to push him onto stage. He legs were shaking so bad they never stopped!!

OK - at 38 seconds into this clip you can see what looks like a large divot in Bills mandolin headstock.  I wonder if anyone knows the story about that.

I would also point out that Elrod is playing "old-school bluegrass" rhythm gtr with a thumb pick like Flatt, Carter Stanley, etc and I'll bet anything he's using Monroe's pre-War Martin Herringbone 28, which many of Monroe's gtr players used before it was stolen.  Elrod is doing some fine runs here and I think he was actually on the recording of this (which, of course, is sync'd here).  He does look a little nervous on camera!

Wait… where they lip synching and music synching? Watching the fiddle player, the string that he is playing on in the video do not correspond to the sound of those those strings… I’ve played fiddle for 10 years btw.

Is the banjo player playing that banjo left handed?
