450 would have been the idea price 499 would still be something in the ok-ish ballpark.
But 599 for cutdown processor, 1 camera, old screen, old notch, no magsafe and a significantly worse networking is basically a ripoff.

I don't know how can anyone defend this.

As an iPhone SE (3) owner since 2022, I am very disappointed. I was hoping for a new model that would not cost more than $450 base price. Instead of the 16e being a new "budget iPhone", we get just another premium iPhone. I genuinely like my SE's small, pocketable size, low(er) price, descent battery life, Qi wireless charging (but no MagSafe) and zippy A15 processor. Now that's all up in smoke. Maybe it was too much to expect Apple to keep making a budget iPhone.

0:37 in my opinion, naming it the “iPhone SE 4” is way better then the name “iPhone 16e” 16e indicates to me that its a inferior version of the normal 16, which it is but naming it the SE 4 to me makes way more sense cuz it doesnt conflict with any other iPhones and the name is really cool as well

The best iPhone SE Apple should make will be take the iPhone 13 mini at 5.4 inch display, put A18 chip Face ID, Notch with Face ID, USB-C, 128 GB and sell it for $449 !!!

At $499 I would consider replacing my 14. Think I'll wait for the 17. If the camera also had the macro feature, I'd seriously consider the 16e.
