I just bought a Bose system for my tv and I’m so happy and impressed with the way this thing sounds! The power and clarity are definitely there and don’t need big speakers to get it! I understand what else is out there for less but it’s my money and I’m happy so all that matters - I enjoyed your review thanks for that

I got the original 301s when I was in high school back in the late 80's, there were my first "hifi" speakers, they blew my mind, I use to love them.

I got a brand new Bose Am700 system from 1997 and unboxed it and was amazed! With the right amp they shine beautifully.

You are exactly correct at 13:12 the Bose sound unbelievable. That kind of music makes the Bose shine.

I used this 301 speakers in early 90s with technics amplifiers. You are totally right. It's a very good sounding speaker for pop rock and dance music. It can also be used in small bars, clubs as pro audio. The only problem is they are very sensible to placement.

They sound beautiful for vinyl, people slating them are just being pathetic! For the sound you can get from these is so natural and the tone of them is simply beautiful! Precise? No last word in quality? No but they do something that is magnificent and that’s to put out a lovely relaxed sound that can crank up when needed.

I have 7 pair of speakers
All kinds. Vintage

I brought pair of 301s to Arizona with me because they were small and east to transport ( vs klipsch towers or pioneer HPM 100s. Honestly. The 301s are amazing !

I had no idea they were that good
Had them hooked to my tv sound system

Now have vintage marantz receiver driving them

Do NOT underestimate these babies !

They do some things better than the 901s and I’d rather listen all day long to 301s

I have a pair of 301 series IV I bought new in 2000. Currently they’re paired with an SVS sb1000 sub and Polk TL1 center and music is so full and clear it’s quite simply amazing. I listened to some $1200 KEF LS50s in a store and didn’t hear much difference to what my Bose can put out.

I use it now. Series II is awesome. Its not a hi-end or monitor style thing, it has its own character. I listen it every day with marantz and denon turntable. 28 years of perfect sound )

If you try these with an amp that can give these 100 to 150 watts per channel you will find a lot more resolution from the 301s. The bass also will become more tight, less boomy.

I can definitely appreciate a used speaker review, not everything needs to be new, thanks toni. I would imagine this is a very practical review as many people have or would use bookshelf speakers in this exact price range 350-750 usd ballpark and I feel buying used can potentially get a lot of bang for buck.

I am currently on the hunt for
bookshelf speakers in that price range and almost prefer used for the quality increase. 60/40 music/home theater.

Love mine. The sound signature is different for sure but I like being able to play some background music and not having to worry about a sweet spot. When I got them they did sound a bit dull and had a lack of bass. Opened them up and found that they do have a simple crossover setup. Once I replaced the components, the sound was much better! I recommend you change out the cap and resistor inside. You will definitely notice the difference.

Thanks for the review...I purchased mine new in 1983 for ~$300. I still have them, yet only listen to them once or twice a year.

Still have them, they once belonged to my grandparents and they're still in great condition. I use them for fitness in the attic and they still sound great. I can't position them how it should in the living room (using Jamo S426) and it's a must to setup them properly so I couldn't use them downstairs, but I will never ditch them, they're classic gems.

Really nice speakers. Audiophiles complain about there build, but there constructed the same as other speakers from there time period. My B&O beovox 3700 from the mid 70s have the same simple construction and sound great hooked up to my Beomaster 4000. They have very deep punchy bass nice mids and detailed highs. So yeah a pair of 301s is on my list for the future.
