Willem Blackwood is the regent of House Blackwood for his nephew Benjicot, who has already been mentioned, and not the lord itself 😉

Vermithor: rawr, only the strong and brave are worthy.
Silverwing: omg you smell like one of Alysane's grandkids, welcome to my lair.

It was cool to learn that Hugh Hammer is Saera Targareon's son! The books say he was "a blacksmith's bastard" without specifying who the mother is, which was brilliant because he'd likely be a Targaryeon descendant through his mom's line.

Spoilers Alert

I'm calling it now: Part of the reason why Hugh Hammer will betray the blacks at Tumbleton in the show is that when he and Ulf show up at the town ahead of the Green army, he'll discover that his wife got killed or died due to the actions of the Blacks. This will be the final straw that drives him over the edge and causes him to turn on the Blacks and Ulf will follow suit at that fateful battle.

It is ironic that Jace is aghast at the thought of bastard commonfolk claiming dragons when, in this book, this whole bloody culling was HIS idea.

Hey Civ! Just wanted to say congrats on recently reaching 300K subscribers. It's taken a while for you to reach that milestone, and I'm happy I've been part of the journey for many years now.

The reason Ulf was chosen may be that Silverwing was looking at him as a child. He steps out of egg nest gunk like a new born, and she pushes him like a small child. Which is in character to Silverwings kindness. Also the credit for realizing this goes to some random yt commente, I ain't that smart to connect stuff like that

The biggest threat against Jace, in regards to the Dragonseeds, is the fact they all got bigger and fiercer dragons than his. It puts him at a huge disadvantage if once Rhaenyra dies they decide to contest the throne.

I think the helper in kings landing was wearing red like the girl in schindlers list. So that we can spot her easily as she goes about her business. Could be completely wrong but that was the image I took from it.

I feel it’s unfair to dislike a scene simply because it’s different from the book. As someone who has yet to read fire and blood these takes are hard to follow since you are using external information to take away from the episode which is it’s own independent creation. Either way I still find the review overall to be engaging.

Thanks for yet another great review, and for keeping the spoilers separate from the review!
I assume part of the changes have to do with practicalities of filming; having all the seeds together in one scene instead of one by one etc

I thought that they know that using red cloak was very obvious, but I think, they did it intentionally for us to understand the symbol of "red sowing".

I agree with your argument on Rhaenyra being a poor leader. We saw a contrast of Aemond who clearly dislikes his Small Council but nonetheless showed he is willing to listen to their advice and use each of their skills to his advantage. Rhaenyra ignoring the Small Council is a cowardly move. If she is dissatisfied, she should have asked Corlys for advice. He would have been helpful in handling the Small Council situation. I am also getting tired with the use of feminism in the show. Martin clearly wrote the Dance to be a war for ambition and tradition, not a war for gender. Also, it is a story of how powerful women can be as horrible as powerful men.

If HBO wanted to write a story of strong female characters, they should have done Nymeria’s story first. The irony is that Rhaenyra, Alicent, and the female characters in the books are competent and strategic compared to what we see in the show. Also, making Rhaenyra a role model is the worst thing ever. Martin wrote her as a cunning villainess, not a hero.

The final straw for me is how the writers said the goat in Harrenhal was added as a joke not for any lore reasons. Plus the writer for Season 1 Episode 9 admitted in adding the Meelys scene because it looked cool (what the heck?).

Also, Ser Rickard Thorne is introduced to be Alicent's Sworn Shield after Criston's bad watches...

Honestly, has the Greens' Kingsguard been ever properly selected since that S1 exhibition by the Princess of Dragonstone and the Lord Commander Westerling themselves since? Must have been a chaotic selection for Lord Commanders to pick members ever since the frequent inabilities of the Sovereigns that often lingers away from the Iron Throne

If I was a show writer I would have handled daemon's final vision differently. Daemon should have approached Viserys who looked strong and not disfigured and at first daemon is happy to see his brother well, but then realized it was now himself wearing the crown and his face deteriorating. Viserys could have asked daemon if he was sure he wanted the crown given that was the price.

The kiss scene last episode was apparently completely unplanned and the actors just did it because it “felt right”
