Huge, monster steam shower installation from studs to tile with modern materials and traditional mud floor combined to create a waterproof shower. This shower has an area for a tub, the shower floor and main floor a both heated with radiant electric heat by Schluter Ditra Heat floor warming system. Wallboard used is a lightweight foam board by schluter, Kerdi-Board, used both on the shower walls and ceiling to create a water and vapor tight environment suitable for a steam shower. The bench seat was constructed of 2” kerdi-Board, which simplifies the construction by using a light weight foam board, which is very strong and easy to assemble and make water tight with the use of Kerdi-Band, the bench was also heated for a comfortable warm experience when used. The very large shower floor was created with a level area where the tub will sit and a sloped area for the shower portion, sloped to a Schluter Kerdi-Line linear drain. The floor was floated with deck mud and then covered with Ditra heat membrane for the heat wire element, then sealed with Kedri sheet membrane as required in a wet area. A large format ceramic tile was used on the shower walls and ceiling installed with T-Lock leveling system, and a Hexagonal mosaic tile was used on the shower floor, a larger hex tile was used on the heated main floor. As a note, hexagonal tile was very popular years ago, but faded in popularity for quite some time, they are now making a return even as large format tiles. This video time lapse shows the entire installation of the bathroom tile, from the studs to the finished installation of all the tile, wall tile, ceiling tile, mosaic shower floor tile and hexagonal main floor tile. Even though it would have been possible to use a large format tile on the shower floor, because the floor had a flat surface pitched to a linear drain, the homeowner decided to use a black hexagonal mosaic tile. An advanced grout was used to grout the walls and floor, White grout on the ceiling and two shades of gray for the walls and floors. All tile installed by Sal DiBlasi, Elite-tile Company, in the Boston North Shore area. I watched your videos 8 years ago to learn how to do a custom shower pan the right way. It still looks great and works great. Leak free. Thanks Sal

2:34 So glad this step was done, as the adhesive sticks so much better to itself and gives greats contact……making it one; compared to just adding to bench or wall board and sticking it on…..great job taking few extra seconds to do this👍🏻👍🏻

Long time viewer Sal 😊 How long did this job take you? And since tiling is hard on the body, what’s your plan for aging and continuing to work? Maybe scale your time down? Keep up the good work.

Ok, if my eyes are right….thats a huge shower at 5’x10’ (ok, edited to say… might be 8’x10’)
I’d almost recommend heated floors for shower that big. But Sal does great job as usual, so already know end result gonna be watertight and beautiful
Cheers✌🏻

19:33 and was right, when have big shower……gotta get customers to go heated floor, if don’t, you will be cold the entire time

Why specifically roofing tar paper over the plywood and under the lathe? Could other material be used, like 6-12mil pvc, if its just so plywood does not suck out the moisture out of the bed? Also, is that a new apprentice or just this project help? Great video, showing how (what strategy to use) to mud-bed big shower. 👍👍👍

Just curious with mud packs. I've been doing tile showers for 30 plus years. I have done hundreds of pans and "never" used wire in my pans with zero issues. I have tore out pans that never had wire as well and they were solid. Do any of you experienced shower guys pack pans without wire?

I am just wondering you started first wall above bench and second from floor so how did the lines connect 100%? I mean I know that you can measure it but still if you were a little bit off it would show

How much did you charge Sal? And do you always include thinset with your bid?

This bathroom is at least 50 000$. Just alone waterproofing material and labor is probably around 5000$. Master I am dying to know am I close enough?

Why not flash your kerdi on the bench as opposed to banding?

Kind of showing the whole shower you went from wet shimming to the screws being in and didn't show screwing the screws in in the first couple minutes. But okay, I didn't know you. Wet shimmed everything. Got it plumb and then put screws in, but you didn't show A line or linear drain hooked up with a membrane system. Oh, Would have been better to be hooked up to a traditional 3 piece drain. The showers have been proven to last longer. Traditionally than these membrane systems that already are leaking and have videos on YouTube showing so especially with these line. Drains hooked up with membranes and not a traditional 3 What is that a 3/8 trowel You're using and not a 1/2 inside again, lololol. Nice change from the typical metal trim, love the I do like how you sealed up with thin set and silicone around the tub drain. Although nobody really knows the long-term effects of these in shower tubs, because I mean, I've seen them hooked up where the shower PAN is pieced together like you did with the membrane and nobody knows if they're gonna silicone! Yay!.... Oh wait, you just didn't show it. You're gonna put Very nice looking Yeah, and I do not like the look of the bottom row of the seat being on an angle because of the pitch of the shower, just looks off.

Such a waste of labor and energy raising that tub area. Could've easily framed it in within an hour and saved your back and knees, and achieved the same result.
