Good info. I hadn't seen the DIY spoon method as we have the Hobie welder. Ran about $80, but we might have gotten it with something else and the total was $80 - too long ago. We haven't been doing the general smoothing. I've only dealt with the deep gouges (from concrete and oyster bars). But we really need to smooth it out as our normal cruising speed has dropped by 2 MPH since we got the kayak.

What about cable ties, aka zip ties? Can they be used? I've seen diy guys ued them in other projects.

You might not get what you paid for but you seldom get more than what you pay for. Cheap is not necessarily a good quality. Sometimes items are over priced. As for the nicks in your hull- that is why I like jon boats. Oyster rocks do not harm them.
