WHAT was the name of the FIRST SPACE SHUTTLE??? #shorts

Did you know that there were six space shuttles, but only five of them went into space? 
You had Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis, Endeavour and the first one that was ever built, going by the beautiful name Enterprise. But the Enterprise was only flown within Earth's atmosphere, launched off the 747 space shuttle carrier and conducted approach and landing tests conducted in 1977. She is now
on display at Air & Space Museum in New York City. Pay here a visit.

The display is magnificent at the Intrepid museum, you get to walk underneath Enterprise and they even have a Soyuz capsule underneath, showing just how massive the shuttles were. Also, as a Trekkie, it’s wonderful to see they have a picture from the rollout featuring the Star Trek cast (and Gene Roddenberry) right as you go in.

Originally to be named "Constitution" but in response to a huge letter writing campaign to President Ford by fans of Star Trek, she was named "Enterprise" in honor of the fictional starship.

Columbia and Challenger will never be forgotten!

It's interesting that you can answer this question in three ways. The first one built and used for atmospheric tests was Enterprise (OV-101), the first one that went into space was Columbia (OV-102). But the frame of Challenger was actually built before and used as a test vehicle. Then it was decided to use the frame as a basis for a new space-worthy orbiter (it was determined that this was cheaper than upgrading Enterprise). That's why Challenger has a lower registration number (OV-099) than all the other orbiters.

The Endeavor is now at the California Science Center in Los Angeles and is worth a visit as well.

There are two earlier others that were never intended to fly: Inspiration and Pathfinder. Inspiration was a wood mockup, originally unnamed. Pathfinder was a fit-test article used for training ground crews, practicing transportation without risking the expensive Enterprise
And then there is the high-fidelity replica Independence built for Kennedy's Space Shuttle exhibit, but that came much later

before the retirement of the space shuttle, Enterprise was displayed at the air and space museum in Virginia.

she was traded in, and now Discovery sits in her spot.

Another fact about Enterprise was that it was originally going to be Challenger’s replacement after the Challenger disaster occurred, but instead of Enterprise replacing Challenger, it would end up being Endeavor which would be the replacement for Challenger.

There is another space shuttle call "pathfinder" which hardly count because it made of wood and steel and NASA used it for testing the VAB, OPF and SLF
