There’s an old joke: Two poor farmers live near each other. Both barely make it but they persevere. They farm by hand. Together they lament the difficult life of the farmer. If only things would get better! One farmer has a small windfall. Has a few extra kopeks and can buy a mule. He begins to do better. I worked for the NRCS for 3 years, until fairly recently. I left with enormous bitterness towards farmers who are amongst the most subsidized folks in the country, who constantly commit fraud by hiding their accounts in numerous LLCs, and who will angrily belittle anyone who accepts in similar aid. There were a few good apples, but most were ignorant and generally kinda awful if I'm honest. That being said, if they go out of business corporate owners will just buy up their land.

I love how he’s crying about not getting a federal grant but people who go to college should have to be in debt for the rest of their lives so it’s OK for him to get government money but not OK for student loans to be forgiven using government money

Same here (Germany) farmers cannot survive without EU money but still are against the EU and vote AfD.
