Australia's First War Memorial

99th Foot Memorial in Hobart, Tasmania was once a prominent landmark. Today it hidden from sight. It was the first war memorial to be erected in Australia and also the only such memorial to be erected by a British Regiment serving in Australia.

Thanks for teaching me the local history that I should already know.
If it wasn't for you, there's so much of our interesting history I'd never know about!

"The dog and I are standing...". Absolutely mastery of cinema, when infact it is just him standing while the dog is being held.

Please provide us two heads from Dodges Ferry some history of Dodges Ferry.

Thank you.

With so many relics of history around Hobart, they all just seem to blend together, become invisible, and go unnoticed. Stopping to read an inscription provides very limited insight. Would be great to merge history with tech, via QR codes to videos such as this to provide quick, accurate information beyond what is set in stone.

Fascinating again Angus. How about a story on the military barracks? You forget it's there. Love to know more.

I immediately opened this, I was misremembering a bit but there’s a similarly striking war memorial out at Nabiac in NSW.

To my knowledge there’s nothing that’s exceptional about the memorial itself, it’s not the first, nor the grandest, The real exceptionalism is found in the people whose names are on it if you ask me.

I’ve been to the Canberra war memorial years ago and seen the wall of names, and while it’s an incredible place- I can’t help but feel like a solemn stone pillar surrounded by trees captures something that the glass, concrete and steel just doesn’t.

😲, wow! Never knew. You said it's located inside Anglesea Barracks property, so does that mean it's not available for the public to visit? Your videos are precious gems 👌👏👏👏🌟. You need to be nominated Tasmanian of the year😊.

I would like to think that those who sacrificed their lives and those who dipped into their finances to recognise said sacrifice, would be proud and honoured to see their efforts publicly acknowledged 175 years later. Its hard to understate the importance of historical reflections such as these.
